Indoor rock climbing - Let's do something different

I've organised climbing events a few times at the Klimhal, just for a change I thought I'd try a different climbing wall - Mountain Network Amsterdam.

(Check out the last event we did at the Klimhal HERE)

In Holland there are NO naturally occurring rocks - however there are world respected climbing walls; Four in Amsterdam alone.

Where?

The climbing wall at Mountain Network is where they held the Dutch National climbing competition - check out this clip especially at 1min 24seconds.

Of course there are MUCH easier climbs there

N.B. The official location (Erasmusgracht 297) on google maps is often incorrect. You should head for "corner of Gerrie Knelemannlaan and Willem Augustinstraat". There's a picture below

What?

They offer an “Introductory lesson”, where you learn safety procedures and receive expert instruction on how to climb. We will be able to climb till 6pm and then enjoy a relaxing beer and chat in the bar.

This lesson including entrance and all the safety equipment only costs 15 euro. You won't need to bring anything except a sense of adventure

If you've never tried this is a great opportunity to give it a go in total safety with professional supervision, invite friends / family / loved ones / neighbors

What to wear?

You can climb in pretty much anything BUT I would recommend wearing clothes which allow freedom of movement, shorts, sports trousers kind of thing and a T-shirt as it can get quite warm.

Strong footwear like running shoes are fine (though they do need to be clean), alternatively for a small fee you can rent real climbing shoes which are much better.

If you're already a climber, why not come along anyway and just pay the GYM entrance fee. (Let me know you'll not need a lesson) If you're interested then you can register now or on the day online here. (In Dutch) - Doing it now will save time on the day.

I'm part of a climbing community, we're a friendly bunch check us out: http://amsterdamclimbers.com

Hope to see you here...

I'm climbing every Friday at Klimhal on Naritaweg 48 if anyone wants to join me around noon. I weigh less than 50Kg.

I did climb, but so long ago that I'd take lesson just to make sure I still know how to make a knot. The primary question here is if there's anyone big enough to assist a fairly large guy (think over 100 kilos).

I'm sure there will be someone. They usually use 2 belayers per climber anyway :)
