  • So now we have some more light lets get back to playing some Ultimate Frisbee with a little slacklining thrown in!
Most weeks Ill probably take my slackline along so if people want they can have a go on that too.

The time is from 6:00pm and we will play till around 8-9pm ish, light and energy depending, feel free to join at anytime, we don’t have set teams or a set time, this is really just about running around and having some fun without taking it too serious.

We have 3 potential venues which often depend on if there are events on or if its really busy and all the spots are a 5 min cycle from each other.

1st Choice spot is the big field by the train tracks, this one sometimes has events on or if its really windy it can be a bit hectic, if so spot 2!

2nd choice, this place is nearly always free!

And just in case spot 2 is busy due to a really sunny day and lots of picnicker’s we have spot 3!

The easiest way is to enter westerpark from the entrance closest to Centraal then cycle past each route (actually in order of 3,2,1), you will see either just me (if youre early) setting up the slackline or usually a couple of people throwing the frisbee about warming up.

The rules, very basic and simple to follow so nice if people do read them first!

The Field -- A rectangular shape with endzones at each end. We will work out the size when we get there
Initiate Play -- Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective endzone line. The defense throws ("pulls") the disc to the offense.
Scoring -- Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense's endzone, the offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score.

Movement of the Disc -- The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may NOT run with the disc. The person with the disc ("thrower") has ten seconds (lets say 10 seconds ish and this only starts when someone on the opposing team starts counting down) to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower ("marker") counts out the stall count (if they don’t start you can take longer!).
Change of possession -- When a pass is not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense. (we rarely sub, if we get a bit busy we split into 3 teams and have first to 3 and then swap)
Substitutions -- Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury timeout. (we rarely even bother with subs, people just rest when they want)
Non-contact -- No physical contact is allowed between players. obstructions are also a foul as it occurs when contact is made.
Fouls -- When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.
Self-Refereeing -- Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.
Spirit of the Game -- Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
