NORMANDY SUMMER CAMP; 26.-28. July, 2013

Hi everyone!

I had such a nice meetup with this group today (at the afternoon hike in Amsterdamse Bos)... First of all thanks!
I saw this event "Normandy summer camp", 26.-28.July, 2013, which I am strongly considering (if anyone wants to join).
Link: https://www.couchsurfing.org/meetings.html?mid=174187
The fee is less than 40 euros, and you get a place to sleep and breakfast and good company! We even have the opportunity to do some hiking!!
I have copy-pasted the information about this event from the couchsurfing community, but one thing to add is that if anyone wants to join, then let's try to drive there by car together (or some form of transportation).
Let me know asap! (Before there is no more spot left - a max. of 80 spots and 45 of them are taken!)

►►►► WELCOME !

Dear Cow'chSurfers,
Canavache (mascot of the CS Lower Normandy group) invites you to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Normandy Summer Camp!

After memorable editions, along the river, or in an old train station, this is yet another place we want you to discover!

An organic and typical farm in Normandy... lost in the countryside near a forest in the heart of our region !

Since the second edition, we ask you to enjoy the Saturday evening party with a specific theme.

This year, it will be super-heroes, comics and cartoons! So, jump on your costumes and we hope to see many super-heroes or Casimir over there!

►►►► THE FARM "FERME D'ESCURES

3hours away from Paris, 1hour away from D-Day landing beaches, 40min away from Caen.
Space : 37 acres [masked] m2)
Sleeping surface : Camp / Tepee / Beddings in the farm
Sport fields : Hiking, Volleyball, Tree climbing...

We are convinced that the place of NSC5 is incredible ... a huge playground, several choices of accommodation, a typical farm in Normandy, and many paths in a protected environment.
Even if the area is very large, we wish to preserve the NSC spirit : a friendly weekend, where it is possible to chat with each of the attendants and a reasonable number of persons for the weekend. The NSC is a bit like a great family party! For now, we expect a maximum of 80 persons.

You can choose a bed in the farm (several dorm rooms), or a place in tepees, or a spot for your tent set on the outside ground.

►►►► 1, 2, 3... BOOK !

Included : entrance + accommodation+ 2 breakfasts + Saturday dinner (BBQ) + soft drinks + organization (rent of the farm...)
Not included : alcohol drinks, other meals, service (household)!
PASS CAMPING : 33 euros
PASS TEPEE : 35 euros
PASS BED : 35 euros
CAUTION! Places are limited !

Infos/tickets : http://canavache.fr/nsc5

Hope to see you for this weekend… very "canavachesque"!

I had a blast in Normandy! 60 people! and people from Hawaii to France (though most French people). So sorry to see that no one joined. The CS community (couchsurfing) is SO cool! Next time, right...? :-)

As far as I can see, Joanne, Krisztina and I are going to the camp. Joanne and Krisztina, if you need to be picked up at a nearby station, please let me know asap. I am leaving for France already tomorrow, and I have no clue of my internet connection. Alternatively send me a private message, and you can get my number.

So if anyone needs to be picked up at a nearby train station, let me know as soon as possible. That is no problemos to be picked up! Let me know, if I can help with anything else.

Btw, this guy takes his car from Valenciennes (North of France) with 3 places :

    Maybe that helps somebody....

Otherwise, I will see you in Normandy!!

It could still be fun to see how many is attending (of the 7 who signed up), so please rsvp here if you join.

Let's make an awesome Amsterdam group in Normandy!!

So, as far as I know, 5-6 people bought a ticket. I just got invited to stay in France a few days before the camp and I need to spend some vacation, so I will do that. That means that I will take the train already on Tuesday. And I will also take the train back. I still suggest that the remaining 4-5 people talk together and arrange carpooling. If not possible, remember that you can be picked up at Aunay sur Odon (bus stop) or in the train station of Caen (capital of Lower Normandy).

Looking forward to see you guys! And for the ones WHO wants to hike a bit - remember some good shoes!

As the carpool doesn't seem to happen ( I hope I'm wrong), I bought a train ticket for Thalys on 26th at 17.26 and back on 28 around the same time for 102 euros. Anyone joining me?

I just signed up! So can we get a count of how many signed up? Then we can try to arrange the car drive (if possible). Unfortunately, I do not have a car, but I do have a drive license. But can people please rsvp on this update if they signed up or not. So far I can see that Jessica signed up. But there is 13 who made a rsvp on the event. Hurry up. Not many tickets left!

    • Jessica H.

Hi, I would love to join a car. Don't have a license though, so no one count on me for driving ;-)

      July 11, 2013

    • Krisztina K.

I would go as well by car. Not sure what other option would work...

Just a final Count. How many has actually bought a ticket for the camp? Again I will remind you, that we should rent a car or take the train and then we can be picked up at Aunay sur Odon (bus stop) or in the train station of Caen (capital of Lower Normandy).

This sounds great! So I guess in total with food, drink and petrol costs it'll be about a 100 euros? And I hope I can join in with the BBQ with me being a vegetarian and all.. But I'm in! Is anyone driving from Amsterdam who wouldn't mind a passenger?

    1 · June 23, 2013

    • Aurore D.

Hi, i ve been checking train tickets...not an option because we need to travel thalys to paris and then paris to caen. Total cost arround 300 € p.p. Alcohol is cheaper in holland than in france ;) for diner its possible to find good meal for 10-15 €.

      July 2, 2013

Well, if I check Thalys, you can get the ticket for 65 euros each way to Paris, and then you need the little last part by train. So max max max 200 euros. But is anyone up for driving??? Will get much cheaper if we are all in the same car :-)

Okay, so I spoke to one of the organizers and he just told me that we can be picked you up at Aunay sur Odon (bus stop) or in the train station of Caen (capital of Lower Normandy). So no problemos! Sign up people!

    Hello everyone!!
I would really like t come and I want to book...but does anybody know how to reach the place by public transportation in case that we can`t make it otherwise..I mean has anybody searched the best way which is also the fastest??

Well, I think that the nearest station is in Caen. So my suggestion (if not car) is to take the Thalys train to Paris (http://www.thalys.com...), and then find a local train to Caen, and ask on the event's website (the Normandy Summer Camp), if anyone has the possibility to pick us up in Caen. Worst case scenario, then we find a bus the rest of the way. The train tickets to Paris are around 40 euros. So I would still prefer the car option!

  • Shaleenee L.

hello, i checked the route, it looks like 6 hours drive from Amsterdam by car. Is this not too much to drive?

    1 · June 28, 2013

    • Jessica H.

I think that it fine. If we leave by car Friday morning, around 9.30, we have plenty of time to travel, take some stops along the way to stretch our legs and get some fresh air. Then we'll arrive on time to settle in and prepare for dinner :)

I am also up for the drive. The question is whether to rent a car or what. But want to know exactly how many is attending :-)

Okay, so there are 17 spots left!... Booking time! Please answer this post when you have booked, so we can see how many we are! We should also talk about transport...

    June 27, 2013

    • Krisztina K.

I also have a ticket, no car/licence though...

      June 30, 2013

  • Jessica H.

I will sign up on the website and I'm going to book a bed.

    June 24, 2013

    • Jessica H.

So I've just booked a ticket with bed pass. It would've been nice to go camping, but I can't be bothered with all the extra baggage of a tent etc. I'm really looking forward to this!

      June 24, 2013

  • Joanne W.

I would like to go. My driving is not up to scratch and do not have a car though. Could pay towards petrol money or go by public trsnsport.

So the question is now, does everyone sign up on the official website? Then we are sure that we can attend!

    The link is: http://canavache.fr/nsc5

I will sign up as soon as people start saying "yes, we are signing up". Then we can fix the transport 'issue' later on, when we know exactly how many is going. Good idea?

    June 23, 2013

  • Boreaj

Looks like we'll need a bus! When do you want to leave from Amsterdam?

So great to see that others wants to join! I do not know how many spots there is left, so I think we should sign up soon. Last time I checked there were 35 out of 80 spots available. I will reserve the one where I sleep in a bed, but I am also up for sharing a tent (if anyone has a big one) or other creative ideas. I do not have a car, but I do not mind driving at all. So there is the option of renting a car... otherwise I am sure there will be some kind of public transport available. But does anyone have a car??
