Carnival Prince Parade Oeteldonk ('s Hertogenbosch/ Den Bosch)

together with the Brabant adventurers we are going to watch the carnival parade of OETELDONK ( so is Den Bosch named during the Carnival)It will be the parade of the installation of the Prince Carnival

the parade starts at 11.11 a.m. ( in the Netherlands 11 is the number of the fools )

It's a big party in Oeteldonk in the streets, squares, and in the pubs! and You will see many people who - in a theatrical way - express the theme "A great feeling"

The Prince Carnival will also arrive by train around eleven. The station will be closed around eleven!!

Therefore we will gather earlier--> around 10.00 / 10.15 you will find us outside the trainstation. When you leave the station go to the right. we will be waiting at the white pillar that is the most right.

We also should be dressed and /or makeup . and it's good to know the theme and also that the colors of Oeteldonk are yellow, red and white. You will see many people that are dressed in these colors.

AND --> IMPORTANT to recognize the persons that make part of our group you should wear the letter A so everyone of the group can easily see that you're part of it. For example you can put an A on your cheek with make-up (but do it clearly).

We follow the parade -as everyone does- to the big square. We will see all kinds of Carnival things on our way. And we will visit several nice pubs and taste the atmosphere of Carnival and have fun together with the other celebrators of Carnival.

At 11:11 Prince Carnival arrives at the station and the National Anthem will be brought. Where after the Prince will hang a kale wreath around the statue of one of his ancestors, Amadeiro XVI.

These events are traditionally enforced by official words. After the actual entrance at 11.55 am actually the Prince will be going to the large market square of Oeteldonk and we will follow.

We will look around and enjoy the carnival things and when we are ready for the pub-crawl we will start by visiting these pubs... (starting at the pub that is most far away from central station and ends nearby the station.

If there are indeed a big number of participants we will make a few smaller groups if that's more comfortable.

below the names and addresses of the pubs

4 bars / café that are recommended by people from Den Bosch / Oeteldonk. We are going to visit these four bars:

“De Smidse” (means the smithy )(close to the St. Jans Cathedral)-->Torenstraat 8-10

Bar le Duc” (Duke bar . ‘s Hertogenbosch means Forest of the Duke)-->Korenbrugstraat 5

It was a new experience to Celebrate Carnival in "Oeteldonk" this time. Alternately we had fun and were realy "IN "the carnival, sometime we were a bit lost. The company was great and we enjoyed the event. (altough it was sometimes freezing cold outside ). And it was also great to welcome some nice new members ;-)

My colleague tells me that the parade in DenBosch is on Monday. So does it mean the one we will see on Sunday is a smaller scale and unofficial parade of some sort? :)

    February 8, 2013

    • Gorkem K.

Thank you Marie, no offense was intended, I really am new to this whole concept, and am noway in position to distinguish one parade from the other. I will be there and thanks again for clarification as well as the organization.

A party which is already more than 550 years celebrated in Den Bosch, carnival Oeteldonk. Which the masquerades, music and later the parades reflects the creativity of the people. A celebration of the world upside down. The cold winter is approaching its end, the days are longer and the weather is a time to harvest. A party where drinks and food in abundance is consumed.

This description of the carnival is interesting. I found it in the below site:

    http://www.denbosch-cultuurstad.com/carnaval-voor-oeteldonk.html

I hope it will be a lot of fun...I will certainly join this meetup...

    • Marie-José D.

Dear members, I almost always go to an event by car, but for this event I would strongly advise you to go by train.

      January 17, 2013

    • Kasia

Thanks, Venkat, but maybe we should take a train, as Marie-Jose advises? lets talk closer to the date.

      January 19, 2013

  • Linda

Returning from Spain the day before, but might be game for this!

    January 17, 2013

  • Venkat

@MJ, My RSVP is 'may be'. PS: Isn't the Maastricht carnival more interesting? ;)

    January 8, 2013

    • Marie-José D.

As you well know, last year the parade in Maastricht wasn't that nice in contrast with Den Bosch. That's why we go to Oeteldonk ( Den Bosch) this year ;-)

      January 9, 2013

    • Marie-José D.

And Den Bosch has a very, very good reputation in celebrating carnival!

      January 9, 2013

  • Andrea U.

Hi when are you going to departure from Adam?

    January 8, 2013

    • Marie-José D.

I'll be coming from Eindhoven with the Brabant adventurers. We'll meet at the station in Den Bosch.
