Two of us showed up 10 minutes late, drove around downtown, noticed two crazies setting up tripods in the cold, then drove up Central and saw the obvious potential for colorful "street" portraits of revelers (young drunks). It was a perfect opportunity for a similarly young (unlike us) drunk with adequate digicam to wander the mob, make some photos, promise and deliver some prints to subjects.
However WE decided to impliment the fallback plan...went to Marble Brewery on 1st, had a few very fine beers and "Seoul Food" (korean)this night's official roach-coach (catering truck). Loud, fun, and very mixed.

All, thanks for answering my email question! So far, only one person had rather meet me at Lowe's, everyone else is going to meet at the NE corner of Civic Plaza. Worth remembering Lew's note below about a place to park in case spaces are full elsewhere. Thanks again for the info Lew!

Thanks for getting me into the group. I happened to be downtown to shoot an event Saturday night. There was a big dirt lot between 2nd and 3rd and between Silver and Gold. On the Gold side was a paved area they were charging $2 to park in, but on the Silver side, where it was dirt, there didn't appear to be a charge to park there. I saw a truck pull up with some gals who were entering one of the buildings, like she lived there, and she said there was no charge for parking there. I don't know the status of that half block area, but I wasn't charged to park and didn't get towed.
Maybe there is someone who is more familiar with that lot as it was my first time downtown at night, but people were coming and going from that lot and no one seemed to care.

Okay, due to the response to the Downtown meetups, I've increased the attendance numbers to try to get everyone on at least one of the 2 meetups. :) All that I ask is that everyone helps to keep an eye on your fellow photographers and don't wander-off so that no one ends-up by themselves somewhere. I want this to be a safe, fun outing.
