A Herrera Canyon area trip to hike around and explore the red rocks, hoodoos, and unspoiled desert views that will end with watching the sunset from this rock garden playground. The evening light
will only enhance this area, which faces west, for photography. This is BLM land out in the Rio Puerco area beyond the Navajo Reservation that is rarely visited by most.
As with all trips to this location, trucks or SUV's are required, so we will need volunteers that have these vehicles or we can't get there. If you have such a vehicle please let me know in the comments section and I will add attendees to the list as we have enough vehicles to take everyone. :)
We will meet at Smith's at 4:00 PM (SW corner of Golf Course and Paseo Del Norte) and setup carpooling with our drivers, then head out to Herrera via I-40 westbound. Our destination is about 33 miles out. Detailed directions given at Smith's. We will leave Herrera just after sunset to come home.
Expect to chip-in $10 to your driver for gas. Bring water, sturdy hiking shoes or boots, sunscreen, hat, snacks, tripod if you have one, and of course, your camera! If you have hiking poles or a walking stick bring it along.
