Guided Night Hikes

Back by popular demand! The El Malpais National Conservation Area is offering 3 night hike/sensory walks this summer. Our budget is smaller, but our creativity is heightened. We will meet at the La Ventana Natural Arch (18 miles south on Hwy 117 from Exit 89) At 8:00 pm. From there we will slowly walk the 1/2 mile trail and make many stops to discover the wonders of the nocturnal world. This is a great program for families and kids of all ages. We will discuss how nocturnal creatures use their senses, experiment on our findings, and wait for our eyes to adjust to see the stars! Please wear closed toe shoes, bring a jacket for cooling weather, and bring one flashlight per family. Please note the meeting location, since the Arch has no address, this site won't take it as a meeting place. The ranger station is 7 miles to the North. For more information call Ranger Jenn at the BLM Ranger Station at[masked]-2918.

This will also be a fantastic opportunity to do time exposure photography, and sunset shot of the sandstone and arch!

Sarah, you posted some good images. Meant to tell you before the end how impressed I was with your children. It was fun to watch them interact with Ranger Jenn. Cheers.

Enjoyed meeting you Jenn. Sorry I missed some of your presentation, but I did learn some new things. When I'm out there ,I tend to focus on the photography aspect of it all. And a lot of other things tend to fall by the wayside. Hope to come back out and just camp out and do some all night photography. Beautiful area, and so close to 'ABQ. Blows my mind that it's not just overrun with people. And glad too.

[crx]: Really hoping we can get the whole group out there in just a few vehicles, but if nobody else shows up at the carpool spot I suggested, you're welcome to catch a ride w/ me.

Is there a meetup time/place for carpooling? (If not, perhaps 6:15pm, north side of the bank at Quail Plaza on the NW corner of Coors + Ouray?)
