Fourth of July Canyon fall foliage!

My weekends are full of weddings this month, so this trip to see some fall colors is on a week day. If anyone is interested in leading this outing again on a weekend, let me know and I can set it up for you! I know this may be a little late in the season, but I'm hoping that there will still be some beautiful colors! The group will carpool to Fourth of July canyon, where we will meander and wander in the direction of pretty colors. Since I'll be taking my 9 month old son with me, and live down 337, I may talk my dad (Paul McC--the co-organizer) to meet the group. Please bring decent walking shoes, clothing appropriate for fall weather (light jacket, hat, sunscreen, rain protection, etc), some gas money, water and a sack lunch and/or snacks. If you need some inspirational photos, a nice write up and directions, check out this website:

If anyone who's going needs to call Renee or myself, my cell phone is 463-8533. Don't worry if you get my voicemail, because Renee lives in a deadzone and as soon as we're out of it, I'll get your message

btw, I was there last weekend and things were just starting to turn. Some of the maples were pretty red, so I think you're going at a good time! Should be nice.

Okay everyone. There was a concern mentioned about the 4th of July Canyon being charred from the 2007 Ojo Peak fire. I was just up there today and even though we will drive through some of the burn area, the 4th of July Camp grounds were NOT affected and the colors are about prime, much better than Del Aqua Overlook last week

Depending on how much people hike around the area, our approximate return time, should be about 2:00 PM

Need an approximate return time as I have to take my daughter somewhere that afternoon.

Is it all-right if I join in? I'm new to everything here in Albuquerque - you wouldn't mind a newbie?

I live about 10 miles south on 337/S14, and the oaks are just barely starting to change colors. Since Fourth of July canyon is another 40+ minutes south I'm hoping they're not changing sooner than my trees. The Jemez is quite a bit north, and a higher altitude, so the colors up there generally change sooner.
