We have the pleasure of inviting Roy Osherove for a second time to speak at NNUG. Roy talked about unit testing and test driven development the last time he was invited, this time he will talk about "Integrity Driven Development" and "Beautiful Builds" - two topics which have generated a lot of interest recently in software development.
Integrity Driven Development
What does it mean to develop with integrity? Is it just a wishy-washy subject or can we translate it into actual day-to-day practices? The way we promise things; the way we act when we know we can't promise something; how we give out estimates. Do we face reality or do we tell people what they want to hear? Does code review improve integrity? In this session, Osherove will explain why integrity can provide a welcome change to developers who feel helpless in their jobs, doing the wrong thing, and knowing what the right thing would have been. He will use examples from day-to-day work life, where you can choose to use integrity or avoid it, and what are the possible consequences. More info at 5whys.com.
In this talk Roy discusses common problems and solutions (patterns!) during build automation and continuous delivery. We start from the basics, defining the differences between automated builds and CI, seperation of concerns in build management, and then move on to more advanced things such as making builds faster using artifacts, solving versioning issues with snapshots, cross-team dependencies, and much more. Bring something to write on . More info atbeautifulbuilds.com.
