Help support your MeetupChip in
The concept is simple, but the impact is huge. The purpose of this Meetup group is to give all interested people in our region the opportunity to volunteer on specific projects that have been posted by local community service organizations including: non-profit groups, service clubs, schools, environmental groups and more. The first step is for you, the individual who is reading this, to sign up with the group. There is no cost and only takes a click or two to complete. At the beginning there won’t be many (or any) project opportunities, but please don’t let that stop you from signing up. We need a large pool of potential helpers to encourage the groups in need of help to post their projects. So don’t wait, sign up now. Get friends and family to sign up and spread the word. YOU are the one who can make this site a success and make a difference in our community. The next step is for the various community organizations that need project help to begin posting events on the site. Initially, this will be done by emailing the event details to the group organizer. Eventually, as some organizations get trained in the process, they will be able to post events directly. Any organization that wants to post an event will need to have at least one member join the group, who will then become the event host (someone who can answer event questions and greet the volunteers when they arrive). But why stop at one? We strongly encourage all groups who post events to recommend to their current members to join our Meetup group. This will allow more potential help on all future events. Here are just a few event possibilities, but I’m sure there are many more ideas out there:
• Clean-up and maintenance projects for schools, parks, hiking trails, creeks and rivers, public buildings, depressed neighborhoods, etc.
• Help with fundraising projects for non-profits such as pancake breakfasts, food and wine events, races, bike rides, sponsored walks, music events, etc.
• Help with city and town events like parades and holiday celebrations.
• Whatever else your imagination can come up with as long as it isn't a “for profit” venture or political event.
As organizer, I will review and post events, train those who would like to post their own events and do what I can to continually improve the site and spread the word, but some help would be greatly appreciated! If you are interested in taking on a leadership role in our site, just send me an email and I’m sure we can find a way to apply your talents to improve this valuable community resource. The greatest gift that all of you can give, as our site gets going on its wobbly start, is patience. It will probably take a while to hit the critical mass of members and posted projects, but once that happens, watch out! We really can make a difference.
