The Reason Rally @ National Mall, Washington DC

The Reason Rally (http://www.reasonrally.org/) is an event sponsored by many of the country’s largest and most influential secular organizations. It will be free to attend and will take place in Washington, D.C. on March 24th, 2012 from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM on the National Mall. There will be music, comedy, speakers, and so much more. We hope you can join us! The Reason Rally is a public demonstration of the growing presence, solidarity, and political power of the secular movement. It is also a celebration of science, reason, and secularism. This will be an unprecedented event and you can say that you were there to witness History. Please Note: You may want to arrive at the National Mall least an hour early. Look for our sign!!

UPDATE: There are now ride share and room share signups on the Reason Rally site! Just go to http://www.reasonrally.org/travel/ride-share/ and http://www.reasonrally.org/travel/room-share/. You can help out someone who can't afford to stay in a hotel or drive to the rally.

It was altogether inspiring, like an Occupy movement and a revolution combined.
Brilliantly organized. A magical combination of in-your-face and humor, all with intelligence. Excellent speakers.

This was food for the starving. Brilliant entertainment and a call to action with courage for atheists nationwide.

Highlight of the morning: Tim Minchin's Pope song being translated energetically into sign language.

Awesome! We need to have large groups of secular folks get together more often, and just as visibly. We need to start doing this at the state level, local level, etc. so that people can see that we are here, we are not evil, we are not trying (necessarily) to "convert" anyone, but that we want our laws to be secular, not religious.

Amazing, though I agree with Tim Minchin. Why must we have a rally to state what has been obvious for 300 years?

Words can't describe the awesomeness of so large a number of freethinkers gathered on the National Mall.

Did not get to meet up with you guys, but I was there at the rally with a friend of mine. Great turn out and I enjoyed mingling with the like-minded. Hope to meet folks from the group soon.

The friend code for my cell phone is[masked] and the friend code for my iPad is[masked]

It appears for iOS (Or at least the iPad version) that you can share your schedule which I haven't found the option in the Android version.

I'm working as an usher and will get a map of the layout soon. As soon as I get it, I'll forward it.

We don't really know the layout of the event so it's hard to name a spot to meet up. Several of us will be carrying signs that say "Hi Mom! I'm an Atheist. Find one of those and you will find us. Otherwise, have fun!

Bring a hat and sunscreen and water. There may be vendors nearby for food and drink but you may want to bring your own to be safe.

The Reason Rally carpool/rideshare site is http://www.reasonrally.org/trav.... As far as Nova members, anyone willing to carpool? Rick & I can't, because we'll be coming in by metro from Bethesda, where we'll be prepping for the American Atheists convention.

What is the carpool situation? Is anyone in need of an extra body in their carpool? Or I could drive if others need a ride. I'm coming from Leesburg, but could meet elsewhere. Or is there already a pre-determined breakfast meetup spot?

I just downloaded the Reason Rally app to my DroidX and it shows the minutes by minute schedule for the day. Just go to marketplace on your phone and search for "Reason Rally" and it will come up first. It's free - just click on it and download it and you're good to go!

There is now an android app for the Reason Rally. I haven't seen anything official from reasonrally.org but it appears to be legit. It also includes the schedule of the speakers that will be there.

Also, I don't know entirely what it does but my friend code is 562-347.

Here's the link to the app store. I'd post a barcode to it if I could.

Dammit, Ellen, why don't you just pray for nice weather! (Missed you last night at the Meet-up.)

Since it'll be very early spring, I suggest warm layered clothing (and rain gear if necessary!) and maybe a blanket to sit on. We will have signs saying "Hi Mom, I'm an Atheist!" that you can carry around.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
