AppInventor for Beginners

Make a mobile app or two with a simple web-based builder and view the code created. Teens and kids with parents are also welcome. This class is instructed by TJ Junior Ankit Goyal, founder of the TJ Mobile App Club.

Bring a PC, Mac or any Linux computer - AppInventor will not work with Google Chrome Book or iPad.  Follow these instructions (http://beta.appinventor.mit.edu/learn/setup/) to load AppInventor before the meetup.

We share our parking lot with others, so please use it only for dropping off and picking up.  Parking can be found across the street: http://nova-labs.org/contact/#parking

App Inventor is a great introduction to object-oriented programming, from which people of all ages can benefit. I can't wait to take the next level to learn how to develop more complex programs.

Ankit did an outstanding job. Everyone in the group of 20 learned how to create 2 mobile apps. Most asked for the next level class. A few who couldn't make it today asked if this intro class
    could be offered again.

Absolutely great class!! My daughter Lori Anne loved it and is very excited about creating that app that would help mom figure out where the car is parked :). Thanks for organizing! We're looking forward to the next class.

Kudos to Ankit on an excellent job presenting and guiding us through building the apps. We can't wait for the next session.

I had an emergency that came up and will not make it. Could I apply my credit towards the next class.

For everyone attending, please bring any current or old Android phone and cable - we can use the built-in emulator, but it's more fun to hold a device in your hand and see the app you've created.

I appreciated the parent/child combo question.....my 10 year old daughter is interested in attending tomorrow. Is she too young?

If you think she will need some help navigating through the drag and drop environment, then sit beside her. If she's eager to learn it on her own, it should be fine.

Neel and I will attend! Thanks.

Is a parent-child combo $40 or is there a prcie break?

    • Erica

My daughter is the main one interested -- but I expect I'd end up learning something too.

Some are signing in themselves on behalf of their kids. If it's your daughter who will be on the computer and not you, then it's fine to sign up just one attendee.

Bummer. I soooo want to take this class. But I have a prior commitment. Hopefully you will run it again at some point.

I tried to sign up my son and myself for the upcoming App class, but I think I might have signed myself up for membership instead. Is there any way to check on this? Thanks.

Eleanor, what a simple question with a lot of possible answers. :) Membership details are at http://nova-labs.org/..., but signing up for Meetup and joining the "Nova Makers" group is separate. And, you have to do that before you can sign up for an event. Looking at the list of folks registered, you don't appear, so you might have to try again.

I don't know anything about app development. But I am ready to learn.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
