Student Research & Engineering Project Seminar

IMPORTANT: Signing up is a commitment since there are limited spaces. Before signing up, please contact [masked] for more details.

What:  The Research & Engineering Project Seminar will guide students through an individual research project. The students will be mentored in producing either a competition-grade research paper or an engineering prototype product.

Who:  There are no specific age limits on the seminar participants.  However, the material and expectations will be geared toward students in grades 7 and above.  The real criterion are a) the maturity to work through all phases of a project with some degree of independence, while relying on mentorship by others, b) the commitment to stick with a project – through both ups and downs, and c) the ability to communicate with others in order to plan, advocate for, identify challenges/solutions of and present YOUR individual project.

When:  Our first meeting will be held at NOVA Labs on Wednesday, September 18th at 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Since parents will be vital to this process, we need both students and parents to attend. We will meet about once per month for approximately 10 months. All in-person group meetings will take place at NOVA Labs.  Additional meetings will be held online or with individual project mentors.

Cost:  There will be a $50 per student fee for the seminar itself. This does not include any additional expenses that may be incurred as part of the individual project.

Note:  Green Orientation is not a pre-requisite. However, use of Nova labs tools and equipment must be in full compliance with NOVA Labs rules and requirements.

I've signed up for my son Ryan Jordan to participate in the Student Research & Engineering Project Seminar. Ryan is a creative 10th grader at Quince Orchard High School in Maryland. I'm looking forward to help mentor him through this creative opportunity. Many thanks for the organizers for hosting!
