DC Area OpenSource Workshop meeting

For our first meeting, the meeting topic will be as follows:

Description:  Project :: Lubuntu Spin

Project Owner :: Jared Contrascere

The DC Area OpenSource Workshops is a community-driven group.  Each meeting one member will bring their project and the other attendees will contribute to the project to help where they can.

For the first meeting we will help Jared Contrascere with his Lubuntu project.  Lubuntu (http://www.lubuntu.net/) is a flavor of Ubuntu based on the Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment (LXDE), as its default GUI.

The goal is to provide a very lightweight distribution, with all the advantages of the Ubuntu world (repositories, support, etc.). Lubuntu is targeted at "normal" PC and laptop users running on low-spec hardware. Such users may not know how to use command line tools, and in most cases they just don't have enough resources for all the bells and whistles of the "full-featured" mainstream distributions.

    Sounds interesting, and I'll look for future events, but I'll be in Norfolk for the Hampton Roads Maker Faire that evening.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
