STEM - Minecraft 101

** We prefer that parents learn with their children at the makerspace. This is really ideal.

**Parents must remain on premises for kids under 10. Also, stay with your child if he/she needs extra help with the computer.

* Request from mentors. EACH child MUST have their own computer. Sharing is a bit confusing for the mentors.

This is a STEM meetup which will be driven by player questions. Help your child form some questions and when here, help them ask some more. The kids tell me that Minecraft is really is not something one teaches. The kids build, explore, make mistakes, land in the lava, get mobbed, and learn from the process. Our mentors will be advanced players who have volunteered to help.

Basic list to start with. How to download Minecraft; how to download Mods; Redstone; coolest mods; using and making skins; Minecraft terms and netiquette; when not to download the latest version; how to find answers to questions; and good/safe servers to play on. Singleplayer mode mostly. No griefing and destruction for first part of class. We'll go to multi-player mode with the last 30 minutes and y'all can go for it.

I signed in two kids, But I only have one laptop. Can one of them use the iPad as an alternative? Thank you.

I've asked one of the teen mentors. No, the iPad or iPhone cannot be used for this event. The kids need to have a computer. The version of Minecraft on the iPad and iPhone cannot use almost any of the advanced features so there would be no point in the child attending. If there is only one computer, please bring one child and that child can pass on the lessons learned to your second child. This is how kid are learning Minecraft, they teach each other.

Tharwa, there is a waiting list of kids so I've release one of your slots to allow another child to attend.
