PURPOSE: I'll be opening Novalabs for a weekly kids meetup on Tuesdays from 4 to 6. Please join us in exploring and inspiring young makers to make.
NOTE: There is a ONE time charge of $5 for new attendees. Paid at the lab.
Bring your computer! The Internet knows more than we do.
*Parents, please stay with your child: if they are shy, if they are under 10, if they are still learning to focus. This is a meetup, not a class. YOU are your child's best mentor.
Teens and grownup working on their own projects are welcome!! Please, please join us.
The goal of a makers space is to encourage making. It is a different way of "learning" STEM than in the classroom. More of an active "doing" of science. We want to encourage our younger makers by making the space available at an earlier time once a week. Many schools are planning after school maker spaces. If your school is not there yet, Novalabs has a lot of resources that will inspire your child to MAKE.
The main idea here is making not watching. So bring yours and your kids' projects or project ideas to work on and get help with. Bryce, my intrepid assistant, will help with computer programming projects, Arduino projects, electronics, digital drawing, robotics, and any lazer cutting. Other fantastic mentors drop by and help also.
We'll also have a growing number of project idea books, electronics kits, and materials.
No ideas. No problem. I'll sit with your child and we'll brainstorm and get them started. They'll be inspired by the other junior makers. Project ideas can be found in your childs head, but also on DIY, instructables, Pinecrest, Thingyverse, Adafruit, youtube, Google, etc. Mentors can help with 3D printing, tools, woodworking, and the lazer cutter when needed as part of a project. Your project can also be to learn programming, basic electronics, or 3D technology. You can takeapart, make a boat, make a plane, draw, sew, or learn 3D modeling.
Fine arts projects are welcome. Non-techy artistist makers are exploring costume- and prop-making using the lazer cutter, spray foam, and etc.
