Hooker's Debacle and Other Matters

150 years ago Union general "fightin'" Joe Hooker lost confidence and the Battle of Chancellorsville to Robert E. Lee. The victory was, however, costly for the South. Come explore the battlefield with us. We will do a short hike (<7 miles flat). On the way back we will visit Brand Station VA, where a month later started the undoing of the Confederate general Jeb Stuart's cavalry, which played a part in the eventual defeat of the South at Gettysburg… And now that we mentioned brandy, a stop at a winery on our way back becomes obligatory. We will taste some wine, and buy and consume some more, with snacks. Plan for a long day. We will start at Springfield Metro and car pool to Chancellorsville, where we will do a hike. Then we will drive to the winery, and then on to Brandy Station and finally Vienna Metro, where the hike will end. Hikers are expected to ride Metro back to Springfield. Bring money for he car pool, wine tasting, wine, snacks, and the Metro ride (~$40). Car pool fee: $12. Contact leaders Mano[masked], Mike[masked] & Patrick. Contact [masked]  for details via e-mail. Sorry the group size will be limited - please be mindful of others and cancel if you think you will not be attend, so that those on the wait list can be promoted.
