What Hike Club is This?: The NOVA Hiking Club for Dog Lovers Meetup does pretty much all of its hikes with the Northern Virginia Hiking Club (NVHC), see http://www.NVHC.com for more info.
Hike Rating: This hike is RATED LEVEL C. Hike rating is based on both the linear distance and elevation change with 400 feet of climbing considered equivalent to 1 mile linear distance. The ratings are:
A=Difficult (greater than 13 miles)
B=Moderately Difficult (10-13 miles)
C=Moderate (7-10 miles)
D=Easy (less than 7 miles)
Hike Description: Approx. 6-7 miles out-and-back hike starting on Matildaville Trail, then Ridge Trail, then Difficult Run Trail. When we turn around and go back, instead of Matildaville Trail, we will take Old Carriage Road.
Meeting Place and Driving Directions/Address: Great Falls Park, Virginia Side, the Visitor Center, 9200 Old Dominion Dr, McLean, VA. Meet at the Visitor Center and look for the hike leader who will be have a balloon. Reminder: Today Daylight Savings Ends, so make sure your watch has the correct time.
Meeting Time: 9:00 AM
Carpool Fee: $0.00 (there is no need for a carpool)
Park Entry Fee: $5.00 (see Other Costs below)

Other Costs: NVHC asks non-NVHC members to pay a guest hike fee of $2. The Great Falls Park Entry Fee is $5 per vehicle, but you may want to ask the Park Ranger at the gate if you can purchase an annual park pass for $20 if you plan to visit Great Falls (or any National Park, the pass is good for all National Parks) more than 4x per year.
Children: Children are welcome on this hike so long as they are accompanied by their parent/guardian.
Pets: Your dog is required to be on a six foot leash at all times. Please remember to bring water for your dog.
Weather Policy: Hikers should contact the Hike Leader before going to the meeting place when conditions are questionable. The hike leader may cancel or modify the hike if weather, trail, or driving conditions are dangerous. If the hike is cancelled at the very last minute, such as due to really bad weather, the Hike Leader may not be at the meeting location.
