What Hike Club is This?: The NOVA Hiking Club for Dog Lovers Meetup does pretty much all of its hikes with the Northern Virginia Hiking Club (NVHC), see http://www.NVHC.com for more info.

Hike Rating: This hike is RATED LEVEL D. Hike rating is based on both the linear distance and elevation change with 400 feet of climbing considered equivalent to 1 mile linear distance. The ratings are:

A=Difficult (greater than 13 miles)

B=Moderately Difficult (10-13 miles)

C=Moderate (7-10 miles)

D=Easy (less than 7 miles)

Meeting Place and Driving Directions/Address: Burke Lake Park is at 7315 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, Virginia.  Meet at Burke Lake Park parking lot near the amphitheater. When you enter the park from the main entrance, take a left and follow that road to the very first parking area you see on your right which will be near the amphitheater (look for a sign that says “amphitheater”). Look for the hike leader who will have a balloon. Weekend park entry fee for non-Fairfax County residents is $10 per car from April through October, so there should be no fee charged in December.

Hike Description: This 4.5-mile circuit hike features a level walk around a scenic lake. At the end of the hike, there will be an optional, short, guided meditation.

Meeting Time: 9:30 AM

Carpool Fee: $0.00 (none because there is no carpool) 

Park Entry Fee: $0.00

Other Costs: Non-members of NVHC will be asked to pay a guest hike fee of just $2 cash. 

Children: Children are welcome on this hike so long as they are accompanied by their parent/guardian.

Pets: Dogs are welcome as long as they are on a 6 foot leash. Please remember to bring water for your dog.

Weather Policy: Hikers should contact the Hike Leader before going to the meeting place when conditions are questionable. The hike leader may cancel or modify the hike if weather, trail, or driving conditions are dangerous. If the hike is cancelled at the very last minute, such as due to really bad weather, the Hike Leader may not be at the meeting location.

Hike Leader: The NVHC Hike Leader is Audrey Roh. The phone # for the Hike Leader is usually emailed out to the list of attendees a day or two before the hike.
