This is a 10.5 mile circuit hike with 2600 foot elevation gain. We will begin at Edinburg Gap in the Massanutten Mountains and hike north on the Massanutten Trail where we will loop back on the 7-Bar None and Bear Trap trails to a beautiful overlook of the Shenandoah valley where we will have lunch.
If you want to hike as a guest, the fee is $2 collected in cash at the hiking meeting place. If you want to hike for FREE, you must be a member of NVHC (being a member of the NVHC Meetup is not enough - you would have to fill out the NVHC Membership Form and pay the annual dues which are $2 to $5 depending on the time of year that you join). If you want to become a member, you are encouraged to fill out the online Membership Application form and submit it online (or print it and bring it with you) BEFORE you come to the hike so as to help reduce the paperwork that needs to be done at the hiking meeting place. You can access the NVHC Membership Application Form online here.
Unfortunately my car is currently being repaired and I don't think I will be able to make it out to the meeting point tomorrow from DC. So I'll have to change my RSVP last minute, sorry about that but I hope to join one of these very soon!
This group is for hiking enthusiasts in the DC/MD/NOVA area. NVHC asks non-members who show up on hikes to pay a nominal guest fee of $2. Just being an online member of this Meetup site does not automatically make you a member of NVHC. NVHC is a very well-organized, friendly hiking club, and NVHC offer hikes almost every Saturday and Sunday throughout the entire year, rain or shine. See the official NVHC website at www.NVHC.com.
OFFICIAL NVHC PET POLICY: In general, pets are welcome on NVHC hikes as long as they are well behaved and kept under control at all times. Dogs should be current on rabies vaccination, wear identification, and be kept on a standard 6-8 foot leash. Please contact the hike leader in advance if you intend to bring a pet because pets are not permitted on some trails. All pooper scooper laws must be obeyed. Remember to bring water for your pet.
