Bull Run Mountains (Level C)

A 5-mile hike with 400' elevation gain only 20 minutes from Centreville--a short but rewarding hike in all seasons. The majestic view of the valley from the limestone outcropping at the summit will mark forever your returns to Washington on I-66. This was the site of the Battle of Thoroughfare Gap during the Civil War. See http://www.brmconservancy.org/

    I live next to Bull Run so I would like to meet you at the trail head instead of driving east and then back closer to my house :). Can you send me the info on where we are starting from? Grats!

    Hi. I'm Wennie and new to this group. I love to hike but still learning the loops. I'm curious about the levels. How do you categorize Levels A, B and C? Thanks.

      Hi Winnie,

      Welcome. See below for rating system. Details on our website: www.nvhc.com.

      Rating System

      Hike rating is based on both the linear distance and elevation change with 400 feet of climbing considered equivalent to 1 mile linear distance. The ratings are:

      A=Difficult (greater than 13 miles)

      B=Moderately Difficult (10-13 miles)

      C=Moderate (7-10 miles)

      D=Easy (less than 7 miles)

    This is one of my favorite hikes & close to where I live too. Would anyone like to plan on enjoying the winery close by afterwards for some eats etc.? If so, will write details. Happy Thanksgiving! Cynthia. : )

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
