Pensacola Weekly Writing and Critique Group

Looking to get some fresh eyes and detailed feedback on your work? A critique group can help you to:

  • Gain new perspective on your work from members of various backgrounds.
  • Learn to talk about your writing and yourself in front of others.
  • Explore different angles that you might not have considered.
  • Add to your list of storytelling techniques.
  • Enjoy opportunities to use others as a sounding board for new story ideas or challenges in current works.

Guidelines:

  • We promote a professional, structured, and respectful environment that is both honest and constructive.
  • All types of writing are welcome! Many of our members are also involved in the NWFLWG and include writers of literary fiction, fantasy/sci-fi, non-fiction, autobiographies, poetry, screenplays, and more.
  • Our group includes all experience levels, from published authors to newcomers putting their first ideas to paper.
  • We read all lengths of manuscripts, from short stories to full-length novels.

Meeting Schedule:

  • We meet at 6 pm every Tuesday at Books-a-Million (6235 North Davis Highway, Pensacola, FL 32504)
  • Weekly submissions are limited to around 15 double-spaced pages or 3000 words. Of course, don't just cut off mid-sentence. If you have to go over a little bit to finish a chapter or scene, that's perfectly fine.
  • Visit (and join!) our Facebook Group

I am new and have never been to a meeting yet. I would like to go tonight, but I need a ride home. I live a mile from West Florida Hospital, which is not far from Books-A-Million. I will be able to get there by bus (as someone stole my car, it's my new way of travel).

Does anyone coming to the meeting live in my direction? I would love to become a part of this writer's group! Always, Susan Fisler (850)[masked]

I will be out of town next week, but will most likely go the week after, on October 1. It wouldn't hurt to put out a note that day reminding me.

PLEASE NOTE: The change of venue and the potential change in meeting frequency that is being discussed only pertains to the meetings that were previously held at the Drowsy Poet coffee shop. It does NOT pertain to this critique group. We will continue to meet weekly at the cafe in Books-a-Million.

I did. I think the library is a good option if the group doesn't mind being monthly, or you could always move to Books A Million. The weekly critique group never has a problem hearing each other speak. Book stores are as hushed as libraries. :)

On the subject of weekly meetings vs. monthly meetings. I know it's hard for some of us to attend weekly. However, a weekly critique of written work would result in a vastly more efficient improvement of writing capabilities than a monthly critique.
