So, next month is National Novel Writing Month. For those of you who haven't heard of this goofiness, it's a bunch of people (well over 100,000) around the world who attempt to write 50,000 word novels (novelettes) in 30 days, during the month of November.
It's generally a tremendous amount of fun, particularly if you are a strict NaNo-ist and write a complete story, start to finish, during the 30 days. I tend to play a little loosey goosey with the rules and try to write 50k on my current project. However you do it, it's a good exercise in applying butt to chair and writing.
In Navarre, we will have write-ins several times a week at the pavillions of Navarre Beach State Park. You go onto the island (over the causeway), turn left at the end of the road (at the Beach Monkey Restaurant, used to be Cocodries used to be...oh never mind) and there are 2 sets of pavillions on the right. My plan is to go to the first set unless they are reserved. They won't be, except maybe on the weekends. I've been going there for the past several weeks to study for my national boards (Nov 1), and it's nice and breezy and quiet and you can look at the Gulf when you need to relax your brain. Restrooms are available, but you'll have to bring your own drinks/snacks/whatever. So, more info on that later for anyone interested.
If anyone in any other areas would like to host write-ins, let me know and we'll put directions, time, date, etc, on the calendar.
So if you need a bit of a push to get yourself through a block, or to start a new project or finish an old one, joining the NaNoWriMo insanity might help. You don't have to do it officially, although you can get some cool prizes, you can just join the tickety tickety tickety of keys at the beach.
We've got some new members in the last week, welcome to all! We've got a meeting in P-cola on the 27th, don't forget to take a look at the calendar.
I'll be working on setting up subgroups by geography and also by genre. We tried this once before and it got nowhere fast. Let's hope we can make it work this time!
don't forget...WRITE ON!
