Sabin Bee-Friendly Backyard Tour (free!)

The first annual Sabin Bee-Friendly Backyard Tour is scheduled for Sunday, July 14 from 11:00 to 3:00. The purpose is to raise awareness about the importance of pollinators and share information about how to create healthy bee habitat in an urban garden. When the time gets closer, we will post a map on the Sabin website (sabinpdx.org) that you can print out.

You are welcome. I love meeting other gardeners! Diane takes credit as the organizer for this meetup. I only made it to seven of the 13 gardens on the tour because they were all so interesting and lovely. I'm hoping to post pictures tonight. Thanks for being a member!

It's great that so many people are engaged in bee keeping, bee habitat, storm water, pesticide issues, etc..

Someone asked if this is a group tour or self-guided. It's self-guided. You can start at any of the 13 gardens. I put my address as the location, to give people a starting point, but you don't need to start with my garden. You can print a map off the website (sabinpdx.org) or you can pick one up at my house. Hope to see you there!

I'm planning to come. It's interesting to see everyone's garden, whether or not there are any insects around. My jungle garden is in northeast Portland.

This sounds like good educational fun. Last season I let my artichokes go to bloom and was astounded by all the different bees that came to feast.

Sorry, I haven't been getting the meetup email & didn't know about this. I've already signed up to help out the Sustainability group in Lents at 11 am - 1 pm. If not tired out by all the excitement I will come to this, would like to see everyone's garden.

    Some interesting bee sites: http://www.whereartmeetstheheart.com/photos.shtml
    http://www.laspilitas.com/insects/california-insect-pollinators.htm

Oregon native bees will pollinate native and non native plants, so if you see a strange looking bee in your garden, you might be able to identify it on one of these sites. Native bees work in the rain and pollenate much of our early spring flowering plants, so now you know who to thank!

By mid July, most of the native bees in our yard are done (except Bumble Bees) so it will be interesting to see who is flying in this neighborhood.
