Carrotmob for bees!

What's a Carrotmob and how can it help save bees? A Carrotmob is about voting with your dollars. It's a fun, easy way to support a business that's doing the right thing. Garden Fever is a neighborhood garden shop that's doing the right thing by taking all neonicotinoid pesticides off their shelves. Neonics are highly toxic to bees because they are absorbed by the plant and they accumulate in the pollen and nectar. When bees come to collect the pollen or nectar, they are poisoned. This is what happened in Wilsonville recently, when 50,000 bumblebees died. Despite the dangers, some nurseries continue to sell these toxic products because they are profitable. Garden Fever has agreed to stop selling neonics, so let's show our appreciation. Get on your bee colors and join our Carrotmob on October 6. We'll have information about honey bees, native bees and how to grow a bee-friendly garden.

WHERE: Garden Fever Nursery - 3433 NE 24th, Portland, OR
WHEN: noon – 4pm, Sunday, October 6, 2013
WHY: Thank them for being a bee-friendly nursery (and refusing to sell neonics)
WHAT TO WEAR: Yellow and black, or dress like a bee
This event is organized by Bee Friendly Portland, a coalition of gardeners, beekeepers and environmentalists working to help make Portland safe for bees. www.beefriendlyportland.org

Cannot make the mob but will keep Garden Fever in mind for shopping when I'm in the area or need something special.
