Through our online discussions, we've become a vegan food swap group. Some of our members are strict vegans, others vegetarians, and others eat meat, fish, and poultry. Having good food in the fridge and good company once a month helps us to stay with our food goals.
GUIDELINES FOR COOKING / SHARING
We agreed to cook vegan, not vegetarian meals to accommodate our members who don't eat dairy. Bring 12 servings of whatever you decide to make, and let your conscience be your guide as to what comprises a "serving." You'll take 10 servings home with you-- one will be opened for us all to taste, the other will be use to "pay" the interpreter (I'm deaf, so is my partner, Betty). Many of us have had trouble cooking 12 servings, so you may need to cook twice to have enough to share. Freezing your servings is fine, and plastic containers and baggies are okay to use.
- Strict: vegan dishes only, please avoid all dairy including whey protein.
- Not strict but preferred: sugar free (Spenda, etc.) or low glycemic (agave nectar)
- Not strict but preferred: avoid white flour, white rice, white pasta, etc.
- Not strict but preferred: use organic/local produce when feasible
Recipes will be appreciated, you can post them online on the "files" section of the website, or bring paper copy with you, or both. There is a collection jar for donations to pay for this website. It's $19/month for the group, and you can see the group finances on the meetup site.
