Forest Park Hike

My attempt for an easy hike last week didn't work out so well. We hit ice at 1,000 feet and had much more excitement then we had hoped for getting down. Let's try it again this week. Hopefully we won't find ice by the Pittock Mansion.

The meeting place can be tricky to find the first time. There are two ways to get there:

1. Thurman to 28th. Right to Upshur, left to park, about three blocks.

2. Thurman to bridge - about 30th. Park and walk down stairs to meeting place.

There is very limited parking so you might have to park a block or two away.

Where: We will hike from Lower Macleay Park to Pittock Mansion where we'll make a quick stop and on to the Arboretum where we'll turn around to go back to the cars.

Distance: I've never measured the hike but I imagine it will be 5-6 miles.

Time on trail: 3-4 hours

Difficulty: Easy- I mean it this time

Bring: We'll be back in time for lunch but bring snacks and water. The weather should be nice but come prepared for a surprise shower.

Great hike. Not so much "easy". They tried to kill me, but alas, I survived. I did get worried when, after walking uphill on the way there, we were walking uphill on the way back. Some magic hiker sorcery going on there. Awesome supportive group!

I have to be at work at 1:00 pm so I might turn back early. Depends on our pace.

Have been Mazama rambling up in forest park a bit in the last couple weeks. Ice that had been there is long gone. Trails are quite muddy and slick unless they dry out today. Recommend planning for mud and puddle splashing otherwise should be a nice hike. Other plans for me otherwise I'd be there.
