Bike ride, tentative Champoeg to Mt Angel loop

  • Champoeg State Park

off US 99W, Portland, OR (map)

    45.532135 -122.562347

  • White Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • This was and still is one of my favorite rides in the Willamette Valley. Its a loop ride of about 42 miles if we start at Champoeg Park. The park charges a $5 fee to park per car or you can get a yearly pass to the state parks for about $30.

Its a fairly flat ride with a few rolling hills along the route. The main problem the other year was my butt was yelling the last few miles in. Ouch!!

We ride to Mt Angel, where we will stop and have a bite to eat. I usually eat at the Glockenspeil (obviously a German place) but there are other choices.

I am a fair weather rider so Sunshine is important, we will cancel the ride if rain is obviously in the forecast.

    Distance 42 miles

    Moderate ride

Fee $5 bucks at state park fee per car.

Please Road Bikes or be a fast one on your city bike,

Darn...I just noticed this is Sat. Not Sun. Work gets in the way.

Me either. I averaged 14.3 on my first ride. A little hilly. But 15 to 17 is my old normal.

I did 20 miles yesterday. Butt was starting to be tender. 30 would be getting a hurt going on. Please consider that. Get in a few trips before the ride.

Yup, sound advice. I've been riding. Doing 40 milers. I'm not super speedy, but I can hang!

I think I can do this, sounds like a back to back to back spin class, hopefully without the jumps and sounds like not much hill... Anyhow, we have a month to shape up. Looking forward to it- this will be my first Meetup event.

Bhaskar, I don't know? But you probably should not do this one. Your butt will be screaming at you before your done. About 25 miles is about tops if you haven't been riding. I could be wrong though.

I forgot to mention, please have a road bike. I think we will average about 12-15 mph. I'm in lousy bike shape right now, later in the season we will be 15-17 mph average. Mountain bikes and comfort bikes are on the slow side unless you ride alot. I rode with a lady the other year who could do 22 with her town bike with fenders!!
