Siouxon Creek Hike. Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Mt. St. Helens area

This hike will take you along Siouxon Creek and you will get a magnificent view of the creek and waterfalls along the wal.We will keep a nice, steady pace. We will go at a pace where people are comfortable at. If you are one of these hikers that do not make frequent stops to enjoy the scenery, this hike may not be right for you Please be in at least reasonable shape. If you have to be back by a certain time, please do not sign up for this hike.

After the hike, we can treat ourselves to dinner close by the place.

Hiking time: Approx 4-6 hours depending on the pace.

Distance: 8.4 miles round trip (out and back)

Elevation gain: 400 feet (cumullative gain and loss)

NW Forest Pass is required

Difficulty: moderate.

Bring: 2 liters of water, ten essentials: According to the Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills, the ten essentials are:[3]

  1. Map
  2. Compass (optionally supplemented with a GPS receiver)
  3. Sunglasses and sunscreen
  4. Extra food
  5. Extra water
  6. Extra clothes
  7. Headlamp / flashlight
  8. First aid kit
  9. Fire starter (matches, chemical heat tabs, canned heat, or a magnesium stick)[4]
  10. Knife

, good hiking boots, good hiking pole(s) (you need them for balance, descending, and not hard on your knees(of course it is optional)), non cotton clothing, sun screen, lunch, snacks.  Please plan accordingly.

If you need transportation out to the Siouxon Creek Trailhead, the first meeting place will be at Gateway Transit Center (8:00AM):

Gateway Park & Ride Transit Garage: I-84 east to Exit 7 Halsey St.; take an immediate right on the exit on NE 99th Ave. Parking structure is second building on the right; go to the south end of the building to enter.  From I-205 take Exit 21A Glisan St. from either north or south. Proceed to east side of freeway and turn left at the stoplight for NE 99th Ave. Continue past the Park & Ride surface lot to the parking structure. Meet in the southeast corner of the garage.

If you do not want to meet at Gateway Transit Center, here is the direction to Siouxon Creek Trailhead:

Direction: From Interstate 5, turn east at Woodland onto State Route 503 and drive about 23 miles, heading south on SR 503 to Chelatchie. Turn left (east) at the country store onto NE Healy Road, which soon becomes Forest Road 54. Drive 9 miles on the road and turn left onto FR 57, then in 1.25 miles turn left onto FR 5701. In less than 1 mile, the road switches back sharply to the right. As you drive out of this corner, look for the first Siouxon trailhead on the left (north) side of the road (Lat:[masked] Lon:[masked])

Amboy, WA is the nearest town.

Suggested donation of 10-13 dollars to carpool drivers.

    Wonderful day to hike. Adventurous time to get to the trailhead including the warm up hike. It was a very beautiful when we finally got on the trail and enjoy the blue water. The people are wonderful and enthusiastic. Thank you for coming out and making this hike and day magnificent. I will see you on a next hike.
