PLEASE READ: I'm repeating the class for those who were unable to attend the previous one, so do not RSVP if you have already attended. Also, do not RSVP for the class unless you are really going to attend!
This event is intended to help NW Wilderness members with the selection, configuration and use of a GPS and related software on a PC. Although other organizations offer similar GPS classes, Magnus and I thought it would benefit our group to have a class ourselves as we could tailor it to be what our members want. Also, we plan to have subsequent classes to cover all of the material, especially use of the PC to create and download mapping data to the GPS. Lastly, we can include additional subjects if there is interest.
Note that this class will not include outdoor GPS training as there are other courses at REI, Mazamas, etc, which offer that.
I will be using my Garmin eTrex 30 and BaseCamp PC software for the class. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own GPSs to the class as they should be useful for comparison. However, it's fine to attend the class if you do not have a GPS.
The tentative class outline follows:
• GPS Selection
• PC GPS Software
• PC and GPS Use (PC software installation, creating GPS data on the PC, data transfer to and from the GPS, using the data on the GPS, editing uploaded data on the PC, GPS configuration)
• Online GPS Resources
The address will be e-mailed to all attendees the day before the class.
