This hike was first created by the Mazamas a number of years ago as I understand it and has since been a Gorge favorite. We'll start out early in the morning with Dog Mountain, cross the river for Mount Defiance and end the day with Devil's Rest. While speed doesn't tend to be an issue, stamina is required and a solid nutrition and hydration plan to keep from bonking. There is a great sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.
We are changing the format a bit for the 2014 version of the event. First and most importantly we will divide in to groups according to speed on Dog Mountain and from there we will not wait for the other groups. We won't get the cool summit pictures of the entire team but this way each person can hike at his/her own pace.
For the first time we will offer event shirts to the finishers. During the winter we'll create a design and will have the shirts printed so that you'll get one at the finish of Devil's Rest. My best guess is that fewer then 100 people have ever finished the hike so if you do I'm sure you'll wear the shirt with pride.
