Got to do this one again because I haven't taken Andee on it. So we will give it a go with just a different twist.

I am planning on a descent down Super Left Direct, should be a rappel or two to do on this one. you will need a harness and a ATC or rappel device if we find that we will need to get the rope out. I will bring my 70 Meter rope. (just in case)

Got to say its a steep one with some nice bear trails to follow on the way up. Once we hit the survey marker ,we will retrace our steps for a bit till we hit the ridge down.

Very difficult, lots of steep ground some exposure and the dreaded Devils Club to fight thru.

Distance probably less that 10 miles, 12 possibly.

3200 feet ? I will check on it.

Bring the usual gear.

plus Micro spikes? ( it may be muddy and slick. Fun stuff)

Ice axe ?

harness and atc or rappel device

Guests with a email only please.

Last thing, I currently have a cold. I may have to move it out if it doesn't clear up a bit. Sorry

Rick - did you come down Super-direct without ropes ... that means an ascent should be doable!!!

  • Katya

Well, it was one of those "It was interesting" hikes.

Another classic Rick Johnson hike....hard, dirty and bruising...I would like to thank my supportive shadow B C who, after my painful slip, seemed to know when I needed help from that moment forward. And also to Rich, who caught me a couple of times when I missed the holds. It was nice meeting new people and hiking with familiar faces.

No worries Babara, I'm happy I was there to assist you.

Thanks everyone!! We had a great climb. No rappelling though. No time today. Will say more later. There were some issues and a could of been serious slip.

Another grueling of trail scramble which was both tough and fun. Thanks Rick for setting it up and for leading it. As always I had a blast and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Trails? We don't gotta show you no steenkin' trails. But this is Rick's trademark. Point A to point B up the fall line. It was tough going up and for three of us about as harrowing going down. (Thanks to Beate and Katya for sharing it). Amazing that our two parties raced the sunset back to the cars with identical times. As always it was great to be with all my homies.

Supposedly from the book, there has never been a successful ascent of this ridge. From Google earth there looks like one section that may pose the biggest problem. I may have to do a little pre hike to see how long it is. 2 ropes may be needed.

Thanks Craig. Too bad you're not coming with.

Greetings - I won't see you on Sat, but I may go exploring in the Green Pt Mtn area of the Gorge to checkout some ideas for next hiking season as I have been able to rearrange my schedule. I've been cooped up in an office all week and feel the need to put on a lot of miles at a "fast" pace (or at least try to).

As discussed in my e-mail, I'll claim your extra harness again like I did for The Mystery trail hike. It is much appreciated.

Was hoping you could make it. Always glad to have you along. You will have to explain your new tag. Its familiar but can't place it. Roman. I would use Theseus a favorite of mine
