Silver Star via Bluff Mountain

I've only hiked in the Silver Star area once or twice and that was years ago. Beautiful place to be so please join me for this hike on Sunday. We'll be at 4,300 feet so we probably will hit some snow. No snow gear required. If it get's dicey we'll turn around.

Last weekend was wet, cold and windy. As of when this is posted on Tuesday it looks as if we might have a clear day but much can happen in five days so we'll see.

A 1,660 foot gain in around six miles is not very much so we'll keep a pretty decent pace. Figure[masked] MHP moving average. We'll take a short nutrition break each hour but we don't want to cool down too much by taking long breaks.

Distance: 12.4 miles- in and out

Elevation gain: 1,660 feet

Difficulty: Difficult.

Time on trail: 5-6 hours car to car

Distance: 50 miles each way. $10 for gas

Bring: Assume it will be cold and wet. Gloves, hat, warm clothing, ten essentials, water, food, snacks. Headlamp, just in case. Dry socks and shoes for the trip home.

Cancellation policy: A cancellation after the RSVP is closed will count as a no-show. Three no-show's and you won't be able to hike with this group for a year. No-show's are a big issue for all hiking groups and something we discourage.

PARTICIPATE AT YOUR OWN RISK; Northwest Wilderness Group organizers are volunteers. We come prepared to lead you on a trail or off trail hike but assume no liability for your safety getting to or from the trail-head or on the hike. In case of accident, illness, or other incapacity, hikers must pay for their own medical and/or evacuation expenses, whether or not the hiker has specifically authorized them.

Not much elevation gain but other then that a very nice hike. Awesome fall weather and continuous beautiful views. Solid team. My two GPS's were off by 1/4 mile. I trust the Oregon which calls it 13.2 miles. 2.3 MPH with lots of breaks. About 2.65 MPH moving average.

Wish I could join you but Sundays this fall I have a class. :-(

The road to that trailhead climbs pretty high and you would not want to slide off of it! Bring chains or studded tires if you think there's snow up there. Have fun!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
