Mt. Defiance hike

Mt. Defiance is one of the toughest hikes in the Gorge if not the toughest. We will hike up Mt. Defiance Ridge to the summit and hike down Mt. Defiance Trail. This is not a hike for rookies or hikers out of shape. Hikes suffer from rating inflation at times but not this one. It's difficult.

Total milage: About 11 miles

Elevation gain: 4,900+ feet

Difficulty rating: Difficult

Packing list: Ten essentials, lunch, snacks, minimum three liters of water, sturdy hiking boots and clothes (at least shoes) to change in to for the ride home.

Cotton clothing is not allowed on any of my hikes. All my hikes are rain or shine.

It was nice to hike Defiance this early in the season. Due to the massive snowfall this year we encountered snow at 3,500 feet and got a good chance to hike in snow for some time. Good solid group.

We defied Defiance and won. A long long day but a fine adventure. Thanks Magnus for your conscientious leadership.
