The season is slowly but surely wrapping up. I will be out of town next week and have a climb scheduled for the 30th so most likely will only organize this event and one more on the 7th of May but am using that day as a backup for this weekends climb in case of avalanche danger so this will be the last or second to last resort skiing event of the season for me.
Off piste the snow did not fully cooperate on the 9th of April but the groomers were nice. Hard and fast in the morning and never too soft later in the day.
Another storm front is moving in and it looks as if we might have another foot of fresh between now (Tuesday) and Saturday. The freezing level is shooting up on Saturday so it will be a bit warmer then we'd like. Thursday and Friday are the best days of the week if you can make it up then.
The information below is more or less the same as last week. Please read once but don't feel a need to read it over and over again.
Please answer the questions about your skill level, whether or not you can drive and if so how many passengers you have room for. We will continue the first come, first serve format and will allow as many riders as we have seats. If it appears that we might be short seats I will email you to let you know on Friday.
Disclaimer: While this is a regular Meetup event it is not “led” in the same way we might be used to having Meetup events led. I'll see you long enough to get you in a car at Gateway and possibly again in the Meadows parking lot long enough to get you hooked up with a group but unless you are skiing with me we will have limited contact. Each person needs to self manage, come prepared for the weather conditions and ski/board according to his/hers ability.
Helmets save lives. Please wear one.
We will divide in to four groups: green, blue, black and double black. If you'd rather go off on your own you can of course do that as well. Our basic format is to ride up with people that has skill levels similar to our own that we can ski/board with that day-please let me arrange who rides with whom to avoid confusion- and each car will be able to leave Gateway as soon as all passengers have arrived. If you have preferences who to ride with please let me know or make arrangement with other skiers/boarders directly to meet at the resort. You always, always ride back with the car you rode up with unless you have made specific plans otherwise with the driver. By the same token, as a driver you would never, ever leave without all the people you came up with. Again, the meeting place is by the car, not anywhere in or by the lodge. If you are done skiing/boarding early you can hang out in the lodge but keep an eye on the time so that you can be by the car on time. As a driver I check the lodge up front and then by the downstairs bathrooms if people are more then a few minutes late (I know, people know they should be by the car but I've had it happen more then once that someone sits in front of the lodge waiting for me to pick him/her up). If that fails check in the medical facilities. Hopefully none of us will end up there but hundreds of people do every year. If you still can't find the person, call me. I don't want to drive back up the mountain to look for people but will if I have to.
