Yocum Ridge Hike

Update October 3:

The Dollar Lake fire is finally contained and most trails are back open including the Yocum Ridge trail. We will hike on the 8th, rain or shine. Be prepared for weather.

End of update

What's nice about Yocum Ridge is that it's so remote. There aren't any other alpine areas on Mount Hood as far away from a trailhead. The early sections of this hike are among the busiest around Mount Hood, but after three miles you'll start on the Yocum Ridge Trail you'll enjoy some of the best solitude the region can offer!

Distance: 14 miles

Elevation gain: 3,600 feet

Rating: Difficult

Bring: Minimum 2 liters of water, ten essentials, good hiking boots, non cotton clothing, sun screen, lunch, snacks

It was a perfect hiking weather. We had to return to Portland by 5PM.
Had to turn around at 5.3 mile mark. Good Hiking , good company, and a leader.

It was pretty cloudy for part of the hike but as we came to the turn around point the clouds disappeared and we got a perfect view of Mt. Hood. Very well laid out trail. It did not feel like a 3,800 foot elevation gain. Great group.

After 7 miles we were rewarded with sunshine and sweet views of Hood donning a fresh dusting of snow.

Joe, I suggest the bargain basement of Next Adventure in Portland. I've gotten some amazing outdoor clothes there for very cheap. I never got boots there, but there are racks upon racks of those things there.

Hey, anyone know where I can get cheap (price not quilty) hiking boots? I am a novis but want to get better and it all starts with the feet. :-)

Kim, I had to reschedule this hike twice now. We did the King/ Elk Mountain hike the first time. This time I'm replacing it with the Camp Lake backpacking trip.

Magnus what is the elevation gain/distance of the King Mountain / Elk Mountain loop? Is this what you have decided on?
