Munra Point South, down Waukena Point Off Trail

I just keep coming back to this scramble for some reason. I must think its fun! Ok, One of my lady hikers broke her arm on this one last time. None of that this time ok!!

The Plan is a bit different this time, we have longer days so lets take advantage of it. (just hope the weather is better).

We will head up Munra Pt and continue South on the ridge, but before we hit the power lines were going to bushwack West over to Waukena Point and the Indian Pits. Then head down to the Gap and down the rockslide to the 400 trail.

Distance: best guess about 8 miles, but tough terrain so its a scramble up 1800 feet in a mile or so and its about the same down.

Elevation 3000 feet high point, gain ? 3600 or so. Maybe a Gps guy can tell us afterwards.

Difficult yep it is that. Won't need rope but I will bring a piece to haul gear up.

Please read this part and consider it!!!!

If you have problems with heights and exposure, steep climbs and Rock fields Please don't sign up. THis hike is not one for you!! Also answer the questions!! A brief hike history would be nice to! Especially if you have never hiked with me.

Last I'm going to take more than I really should on this one, I hope to have a helper or two to keep us on track as it spreads out. Nicholas??

I may postpone if the weather will not co-operate. I usually don't mind the rain rain but sheesh we all have limits.

Pay your driver  $5 bucks or more gas is expensive. W

For people who may want to meet at trail head, tell me and  I will give you directions.

No we won't be back by 4 pm. Don't ask!!

Bring the usual gear for a hike, 10 essentials you should know the drill by now.

This was a fun hike, as Rick's hikes usually are! Many of you asked for my GPS track file. I posted it under the More_Files Drop down. Enjoy!

Yeah! So what if we got held up by the snow and didn't make the loop? There was plenty of scrambling and off trail improvisation to go around, and the weather could not have been better for the workout. Thanks, Rick!

Well I had a fantastic day, we may not have done the loop and Dave said we were dreadfully slow. But somedays are like that and I have seen Munra do that a few times now. This seems to be a hike that always changes from plan. Hikes are too ambitious, snow, tired hikers, or just to nice to bust your balls. I hope you had a nice a day as I did!

@ Dave, oh, I thought you also had the Garmin 62s :) Garmin told me this morning their engineers are working on a patch, so at least they are aware of the issue and it's not just me! Yeah, there was 8 or 9 feet of snow up around Tanner Butte, snow shoes for sure!

@Eric, I wasn't able to get the full loop track. There was too much snow still on top so we made it an out and back on Munra Ridge. Bummer on the GPS. I had an update once with my old etrex legend that messed it up until the next update.. Now I'm using a Garmin is an etrex Vista HCX. I haven't updated it for a while though.

@ Dave, cool man, I was hoping you were going with your GPS!
Side note, have you updated your GPS Map62s recently? I did and now it won't show the correct in progress elevation gain! Been in contact with Garmin and they told me how to do a master reset and it's still punked out...

All, lots of hike leaders going but speaking for myself I always have more to learn and when it comes to hiking who's better to learn from that Rick Johnson!

Matt T. one more organizer wouldn't hurt. Looks like a good team. I think we will have decent but not as nice as I hoped for weather. See more to say. (directed at one person)

Rick, yes - I'll be at the gate (Moffet Creek Bridge westbound) at 8:30 am - Perfect!

Rick - I'll dust off my GPS. A few years ago I got some GPS coordinates from David B. who has completed the loop a couple times ... I'm sure I can find them.

Anyone have room in a car? 5 bucks is yours; just let me know what wheels to look for at Gateway.

Maybe because the hike is on Easter Sunday...

Gloria, its similar to RoA, Ruckel Ridge on the way up, on the way down its steep to then we come down a rock slide the last 1/2 mile. The bushwack is new to me, I'm hoping for no Devil's club.
