Tom, Dick and Harry Mountain. Mt. Hood National Forest. My Birthday hike.

  • Sep 15, 2012 · 8:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

This hike will take you through the forest of Tom, Dick and Harry Mountain and to the summit. Along the way we will hike and visit Mirror Lake. We will get a spectacular view of Mt. Hood and other glacier mountains on a clear day. Also the mirror reflextion of Mount Hood from the summit. When we reach the summit, we will have lunch and enjoy the beauty of the area. After lunch, we will hike back to the trailhead.Along the way and during the hike, we will make frequent stops to break and take pictures.

The hike pace will be about 2mph and under. If you are one of the people that likes to hike more than 2mph and do not stop frequently to take breaks and enjoy the scenery, this hike might not be for you. This will be a day hike. Please plan on it. If you have to be back by a certain time, please do not sign up for this hike.

We can treat ourselves to a meal if everyone is up for it. We will play it by ear.

I have hiked in Tom, Dick and Harry Mountain before (last summer). The views are magnificent. Please be in at least reasonable shape.

This will be a special birthday hike for me. Cheers to you if you can make it and enjoy this wonderful day.

If you need transportation out to Zig Zag Mountain area, the first meeting place will be at Gateway Transit Center (8:00AM):

Gateway Park & Ride Transit Garage: I-84 east to Exit 7 Halsey St.; take an immediate right on the exit on NE 99th Ave. Parking structure is second building on the right; go to the south end of the building to enter.  From I-205 take Exit 21A Glisan St. from either north or south. Proceed to east side of freeway and turn left at the stoplight for NE 99th Ave. Continue past the Park & Ride surface lot to the parking structure. Meet in the southeast corner of the garage.

If you do want to meet at Gateway Transit Center, here is the direction to the second meeting place.

The trailhead is located on the south shoulder of Highway 26, two miles west of Government Camp. In the rare instance that there are no other cars parked there, look for a log footbridge spanning Camp Creek, just east of milepost 51. It was a perfect day for this hike, blue sky's, and a clear mirror lake. Our group of 6 made the hike easygoing and fun. Our leader made the hike comfortable. I'm glad I got to do this one, cause it was worth the time.

Beautiful day to spend my birthday. Nothing but gorgeous weather full of sunshine and blue skies. Mirror Lake was spectacular especially we get to see the mirror reflection of Mount Hood. The summit of Tom Dick and Harry Mountain was magnificent especially Mount Hood is right on our face. Meals at Ice Axe was delicious. Thank you for coming out and making my birthday fantastic. Thanks Svetlana and Victor for the birthday present. Thank you Val for birthday lunch.
