Ramona Falls Hike. Mount Hood National Forest.

This hike will take you to Ramona Falls. Right before the falls, you can see Mount Hood and magnificent things along the way. We will make frequent stops to take breaks, take pictures, and enjoy the scenery. When we reach Ramona, we will have lunch and spend time enjoying the scenery. After that, we will head back to the trailhead. We can also treat ourselves to a meal afterwards. I have hiked here before and the waterfall is very gorgeous. We will be back to Gateway Transit Center around 4 or 5PM. Please plan on it. If you have to be back by a certain time, please do not sign up for this hike.

We will go at a pace where people are comfortable at, 2mph or less. If you are one of those people that likes to hike more than 2mph and do not make frequent stops to take breaks and enjoy the scenery, this hike might not be right for you. Please be in at least reasonable shape.

Here is the web link for more info:

You can print the info or map if needed

Hiking time: Approx 4-6 hours depending on the pace.

Distance: Approx 7 miles round trip (out and back, dogbone loop). .

Elevation gain: 1,100 feet

Difficulty: easy to moderate.

Bring: 2-3 liters of water, ten essentials, good hiking boots, good hiking pole(s) ((you need them for balance, descending, and not hard on your knees) (of course, it is optional)), non cotton clothing, sun screen, lunch, snacks.

If you need transportation out to the gorge, the first meeting place will be at Gateway Transit Center (8:00AM):

Gateway Park & Ride Transit Garage: I-84 east to Exit 7 Halsey St.; take an immediate right on the exit on NE 99th Ave. Parking structure is second building on the right; go to the south end of the building to enter.  From I-205 take Exit 21A Glisan St. from either north or south. Proceed to east side of freeway and turn left at the stoplight for NE 99th Ave. Continue past the Park & Ride surface lot to the parking structure. Meet in the southeast corner of the garage.

If you do not want to meet at the Gateway Transit Center, here is a second place we are meeting up at 9:30AM-10AM. (Ramona Falls Trailhead)

Directions: Drive to the community of Zigzag on U.S. 26 which is 18 miles east of Sandy and 10 miles west of Government Camp.

From Zigzag, go north for 4 miles on the Lolo Pass Road (forest service road 18) which is paved one lane each direction. Turn right on Road 1825 labeled "campgrounds and trailheads". This is paved one lane each direction. Stay right on the bridge going over the Sandy River (0.6 mile from Lolo Pass Rd.). There is a gate here that is closed in the winter when there's snow, maybe several months starting in December. The bridge over the Sandy was washed out November 2006 but has finally been fixed (October 2007). This is a temporary fix and they are planning a permanent fix in 2008 (which will probably deny access for a period).

Go past McNeil Campground (1 mile from Lolo Pass Rd.). Stay left past the road to Riley Horse Camp (1.8 miles from Lolo Pass Rd.). The road narrows to one lane with turnouts. Stay left past the road to Lost Creek Campground (2.2 miles from Lolo Pass Rd.). Go 0.3 more miles to the Ramona Falls Trailhead (2.4 miles from Lolo Pass Rd.). This last section is paved with potholes.

The trailhead is a huge gravel parking area. On summer weekends there may be 100 cars parked.

NW Forest Pass is required at the trailhead. If you do not have one, you have to pay 5 dollars to park at the trailhead.

Suggested donation based on what kind of car and how many MPG. 10 dollars to carpool drivers.

If you have any questions, please message me. Thank you. I am looking forward to hosting and leading this hiking event. Also meeting people and breaking the ice. Of course, having a good time.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
