Ski season is around the corner and my hiking season is nearing the end. I want to do Ruckle Ridge one more time this year and what better time then after a couple of weeks of rain? Expect muddy and cold and you won't be disappointed.
We'll hike up Ruckle Ridge which is at times a poorly maintained scramble and includes the infamous cat walk that some members usually choose to walk around. At the Benson Plateau we'll connect with the Ruckle Creek trail for the hike back which is a nicely laid out, well maintained trail. In all we'll gain about 3,800 feet of elevation for a 12 mile hike. It's reputed to be one of the toughest hikes in the gorge and is one of my personal favorites.
Bring: Gaiters (not mandatory), non cotton clothes, appropriate boots and street clothes to change in to for the ride back.
Really none of my hikes are dog friendly, and certainly not this one.
We'll keep a nice steady pace with few stops to keep from cooling down. Please be in decent hiking shape. This is not a rookie hike.
