  • This location is shown only to members

This hike will take us through the canyon of Silver Falls state Park and there are ten falls we will visit. Five of them are over 100 feet tall. We will start from the South Falls and hike a loop and finish where we started. After the hike, we can have dinner together at the park or any choice anyone agrees on. This will be about a day hike, so please plan on it. If you have to be back by a certain time, please do not sign up for this hike.

Here is the web link information about the hike:

We will keep a nice, steady pace. We will make frequent stops to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. If you are one of these people that do not make frequent stops (destination/mission hiker), this hike may not be right for you. Please be in at least reasonable shape.

Here is the web link brochure. If you need maps, you can print this out:

Hiking time: Approx 4-6 hours depending on the pace.

Distance: 6.9 miles round trip

Elevation gain: 700 feet

Difficulty: Moderate

Bring: 2 liters of water, ten essentials, good hiking boots, non cotton clothing, sun screen, lunch, snacks. Trekking poles and gaiters are optional.

If you need transportation out to Silver Falls State Park, the first meeting place will be at Tualitin Park and Ride (across from Bridgeport Village (8:00AM):

Interstate 5 south to exit 290. Turn right onto Lower Boones Ferry Road (which turns into Bridgeport Rd). Drive straight through intersection of Lower Boones Ferry Road and SW 72nd Avenue. (The park and ride area is across the street from Bridgeport Village.)

Interstate 5 north to exit 290. Turn left onto Lower Boones Ferry Road. Drive straight through intersection of Lower Boones Ferry Road (which turns into Bridgeport Rd.) and SW 72nd Avenue. (The park and ride area is across the street from Bridgeport Village.)

We will meet at the South parking lot.

If you do not want to meet up at Tualitin Park and Ride and want to meet up at Silver Falls State Park, here is the direction:

From Interstate 5 exit 253 in Salem, drive 10 miles east on North Santiam Highway 22, turn left at a sign for Silver Falls Park, and follow Highway 214 for 16 miles to the park entrance sign at South Falls.

Coming from the north, exit Interstate 5 at Woodburn and follow Highway 214 southeast through Silverton 30 miles.

In the South Falls parking complex, follow signs to Picnic Area C, and park at the far end of the lot.

Fee: there is a five dollar fee per car to pay to visit the park.

Suggested donation of 7-10 dollars to carpool drivers or based on MPG on a person's car.

If you have any questions, please message me. Thank you. I am looking forward to hosting and leading this hiking event. Also meeting people and breaking the ice.

This will be a good way to start the Christmas weekend.

PARTICIPATE AT YOUR OWN RISK; Northwest Wilderness Group organizers are volunteers. We come prepared to lead you on a trail or off trail hike but assume no liability for your safety getting to or from the trailhead or on the hike. In case of accident, illness, or other incapacity, hikers must pay for their own medical and/or evacuation expenses, whether or not the hiker has specifically authorized them.

The RSVP will open on Saturday, December 15, 2012. Thanks.

Sorry I missed the meetup. Didn't wake up with time enough to meet up. Too much fun listening to music last night. I hope you all had the time of your lives! Merry Christmas one and all.

I want to remind that you signed up for Silver Falls hike tomorrow. Looks like the weather forecast is going to be little rain in the morning and mostly cloudy.

If you are not able to attend, please unRSVP so others on the waiting list can sign up. Make sure you are well-prepared for this event. Please dress according to the weather forecast.

Please tell me where are you going to meet at? Tualitin Park and Ride or the trailhead? So I can get a good count where everyone is going to be at.

If you have any questions, please do not hestitate to contact me. If you get lost and need to get a hold of me via cell phone, you can personally message me. I am looking forward to hiking with you and the group.

It looks like we are coming from too entirely different areas so I don't think I carpooling will work for us. Sorry. I hope someone else lives closer. Thank you.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
