Yet another snowshoe, Wanderings at Barlow Pass

Yet another snow shoeing trip! But maybe just a bit different.

We will start at Barlow Pass and walk up the trail towards Twin Lakes. Eventually, we will start going OFF TRAIL to Ghost Ridge , then over the hill crossing the PCT at some point to connect with the trail between the 2 Twin Lakes. From here here will follow the trail back to the cars.

Mileage about 6-8 miles tops.

Difficult due to steep banks we will be going up and down.

Appreciate any GPS guys or gals that want to come, I will have a map but as long as we connect with the trails, I will be happy.

Problems that may shorten the day is the snow depth, if its nice dry powder up to our knees or deeper thats fine. If it gets to be wet we will shorten the hike. Wet deep snow is hard going.

Drivers need snow passes

Pay your driver 10-12 bucks please

Bring your essentials.

No guests unless I get an email from you. The limit is arbituary but not willing to take 20

Sorry about the late posting!

Also we won't be back by 4!

Also want to thank Claudio for the great pictures.

Great day! I think we had better weather than in town. Yay on the OFF Trail portions. Got to thank Aaron for his trail breaking and Craig for his navigational skills. and Michael for the mole skin.

Quite a bit off trail - we got to Ghost Ridge, but too windy to stop there. Thanks to Aaron for breaking trail most of the way. Snow quality was good. Best part was everybody making their own trail down Bird Butte. No apocalypse, zombie or otherwise....

Nice off trail trip with fantastic views for a day in winter. Thanks Rick for setting this up.

Depends on snow. But would like to cross around bird butte i think. Then over the hill to the trail between the lakes.

Agreed - it seems we will be heading off-trail pretty soon up to "Ghost Ridge" (also called TriCountry Ridge). Here's a good map of the first leg, up to "Ghost Ridge". I figure we are heading across the ridge, then cross Ghost Creek, then cross PCT as we head south?

K were in safe hands then. Mike i figured it would be deep but still fluffy. You cant stay on top of snow like that. You wade thru it on lead

Craig its going to be like our thxgiving snowshoe last year. Can you create a loop

    December 20, 2012

    • Craig G

Yup - that is what I figured. I didn't create a track when we did the snowshoe last year, but I will load a map and make some kind of loop. Dave will also be prepared I am sure, assuming he survives the apocalypse...

Get ready for a breather. I was trekking near GCamp on Tuesday where there was around 30" of fresh. By the time I got up towards Timberline I was in over waist deep. Best bring the extensions if you have em.
