Kishwaukee River Canoe Trip

The NW Burbs Camping and Adventure Meetup Group invites you to join us for a "spring paddle" on the Kishwaukee River near Rockford, Illinois.

We will meet at Larson's Landing by 9:45 a.m. Please be prompt as we are being transferred by the outfitter. From there, our outfitter will drive us and our canoes 8 miles up river to our put-in. The expected time to paddle down river back to Larson's is about 4 hours. Directions and other information on Larson's Landing can be found on their website at:

www.canoethekish.com

Please stay in touch with our Meetup site (comments) prior to our departure for the latest river conditions. The outfitter will advise us if abnormal conditions exist that would prevent us from getting on the river. All members are required to wear a PFD (personal floatation device, aka "life vest"). The outfitter will provide you with one however, you may choose to wear your own vest. (Most sporting goods and department stores sell U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD's. They are inexpensive and could save your life!). Ensure you dress properly for this trip (nylon, fleece, etc.) Remember, it's only mid April. Be prepared if the weather turns cold and wet. Bring snacks and something to drink. We hope you can join us for this fun adventure. Note: Only a limited number of canoes are reserved so please rsvp if you are sure you wish to attend.

Payments/Cancellations: This is a pre-pay event. You are required to pay via Paypal at the time you RSVP. The cost of attending is $32.00 to cover the trip cost and all Paypal fees. If your schedule changes, you can cancel for a full refund by Tuesday, April 13 at 9 PM. In addition, if this event is cancelled by the organizer, you will receive a full refund.

This was one of my most interesting trips "ever" on the river! Although we had a sunny warm day, the wind really made it a challenge for all of us. Many thanks to Tom and his kayak team for all their assistance. Your help was deeply appreciated. Everyone made this trip very enjoyable. Thanks for coming out. You are a fun group to be with :)

Crazy trip! Was very funny. Everyone did a great job working together to make this a fun, exciting, and memorable trip. Jim did a great job! Lots of kuddos!

This trip gets a mixed review. Every time I go on an outing with this group, I meet more and more people that I want to share fun times with in the future, and this trip was no exception. Every one of you had interesting stories to share, and helpful outdoor knowledge that I will be able to apply on future adventure outings. So, as far as Jim's organization, and the people on the trip, this was a Great Meetup experience. On the other side, the venue sucked. As a businessman, I would be ashamed to serve my customers in a location like that. I was also put off by the fact that there was no sign to indicate that we were at the right place, and there was no representative from Larson's to meet us when we arrived, let alone the fact that when the did show up they were half an hour late. Add to that, the shoddy equipment (leaky canoe), and this place earns an "Awful" rating from me. Jim, I'll go with you again, wherever you schedule another trip, just not to this place!!

What a Great day! The sun was out and the wind was to our backs, what else could we ask for. A double fist in the air whoo, whoo goes out to the trip organizers and to Barry for getting these pics up on the site so fast.

We had at least 20 people for this paddle. It was an interesting and fun day. Got to see a new river and get a little muddy. Everyone made it back save, but maybe not dry!

    Hi everyone,
The forecast for Saturday is "sunny" and zero precipitation. Yeah!! The only bummer is they're saying the high will only be 61 :( So please dress warm. The river looks very good as of today, Apr. 13th. The only thing we have to watch for now is how much rain we get on Thur. & Fri. The precip % is low so I think we'll be fine.
I'll post a comment on Friday to give you a final update and info for the trip. Take care.

As of today, (April 1st) Larson is reporting that the river is at normal level which is good news. This big warm-up we are having right now also feels nice :) A few members asked if they can bring their kayaks on this canoe trip. That's fine. Just call Larson's and tell him you are with this group. You will need to make your payment directly to Larson ($10.) to shuttle you and your kayak with us. You will NOT be able to rsvp yes so please rsvp no and comment you will be kayaking.

I'd like to car pool to Rockford with anyone who doesn't like travelling alone. I've got a 7 passenger mini-van. Your car or mine, I have no preference. I live near the intersection of Route 64 and Route 59. I've commited to another Meetup event after this one, so I have to retract my previous suggestion to extend this outing into an overnight camping trip.

I assume this is a one day event, but if anyone wants to turn this into an overnight camping trip, I'm up for that.
