Spring Hike at Starved Rock

COME SEE THE BEAUTIFUL SCENERY AT ONE OF THE MOST SCENIC HIKES IN ILLINOIS!!

We are planning an approximately 8 mile hike from the St. Louis Canyon to the LaSalle Canyon with many scenic canyons and overlooks along the way. We will set a brisk pace, but will stop frequently to enjoy the canyons and waterfalls. The total hiking time will be approximately 4 to 4.5 hours.

The weather in early May can be unpredictable and we will hike in almost any conditions!! Dress in layers and make sure you bring plenty of water and snacks for the trail. For those interested, we will be heading over to Duffy's Tavern and Grill after the hike for a late lunch.

Park your car at the Starved Rock Lodge (not the Visitor's Center) and we'll meet in the main hall near the sofas/fireplace just outside the gift shop. Please be on time as we will be heading out promptly at 10:15 AM!!

Directions to the Park:

Starved Rock is located approximately 95 miles from Chicago and about 120 miles from northern Lake County. Plan for a 1.5 to 2 hour drive - indicate in you RSVP if you would like to carpool.

Take I-294 or I-355 south to I-55. Take I-55 south to I-80. Go west on I-80, 45 miles to Exit #81 (Rt. 178, Utica). Go south (left) 3 miles on Rt. 178 and follow the signs into the Park.

Melissa picked a perfect time to hike these trails. All the falls were running, and it was gorgeous.

A great place for a spring hike with interesting, nice people. The prolific spring rains made for beautiful waterfalls!

It was a beautiful hike. I met many new people and it was nice seeing several familiar faces. Thanks to Melissa for getting us all together and to Andres & Linda for taking care to make sure that everyone at the end were OK. What a great group of people. So glad I was able to attend.
