July Camping Trip - Wildcat Mountain State Park - Ontario, WI

WILDCAT MOUNTAIN STATE PARK – ONTARIO, WISCONSIN

On a steep ridge overlooking the scenic Kickapoo River Valley, Wildcat Mountain State Park offers hiking trails with spectacular views and camping for families, groups, and horseback riders. Canoe the Kickapoo River in your own canoe or rent one in Ontario.

Trip Description:
This trip is planned for 25 people as this is the site maximum. Because of the travel distance (4 1/2 hours from most Chicago suburbs), this trip is planned for three nights from Thursday, July 26 through Sunday, July 29. You are welcome to come for any length of stay, but the price will remain the same. In addition to informal hikes, this trip will also include a canoe paddle day-trip down the Kickapoo River on Friday that is included in the price. You may bring your own kayak and the outfitter allows you to put in and will drive you back to your car. There will be a discount if you bring your own boat, so please indicate in your RSVP so I can refund you. Please also indicate if you want to share a canoe or rent your own kayak in your RSVP. A breakdown of the scheduled events will be mailed out in the pre-trip details.

Payment:
The cost per person for this event will be $60. Your fee includes:
- Dinner on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (you are on your own for all lunches and snacks)

- Breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

- Canoe ($20 each for 2) or Kayak ($25 each for 1) reservation and rental fees for Friday paddle
- Group site fees
- Firewood for the weekend
- Miscellaneous cleaning supplies, cooking supplies, cooking fuel, PayPal fees, etc

This event is pre-pay for you to be able to RSVP YES. If your plans change and you need to cancel, you must request a refund NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, JULY 19 AT 10:00 PM to receive a full refund. After Thursday, 7/19, full refunds will only be available once your spot is taken by another camper.  There is no waitlist available with the pre-pay option so please indicate in the "Talk About this Meetup" if you would like to attend and we will control the waitlist that way.

Kayak/Canoe Paddle:

We will be taking a  paddle trip down the Kickapoo River on Friday morning.  I will be reserving canoes for 2 ($20 per person) or kayaks for 1 ($25 per person) through a local outfitter.  This is included in your fee.  Please indicate in your RSVP if you want a canoe and you will be refunded $5, otherwise, I will assume you want a kayak.

Food Arrangements:
Everyone should bring their own food for all lunches, snacks, and beverages (including coffe, juice, water and milk). All dinners and breakfast items are included in your fee. Complete details on meals will be sent to the group prior to the event. If you have any meal suggestions, you can email them to me. Although it is not required, if you are planning to bring something to share with the group, you may indicate this in your RSVP to minimize duplication. ALL beverages - alcohol and non-alcohol - is BYOB.

Parking and Wisconsin State Park Vehicle Permits:
All cars must have a Wisconsin State Park vehicle sticker. We can have only 10 cars at this group site. I highly suggest carpooling, although there is nearby overflow parking. If you are willing to carpool, please use the "comment" field in the RSVP and indicate where you are leaving from and how many you can take along in your car.

Miscellaneous Reminders:
- Pets are allowed on this camping trip so please indicate in your RSVP if you will be bringing your dog
- Ontario, Wisconsin is a 4 hour drive from the north suburbs
- This is an adult only event – please no children/teens

I will be emailing final details about the group site, directions, and dinner menu options during the week before the event. In the meantime, please feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

Regards,
Melissa

I'm looking for a travel companion for this weekend. Prefer someone who likes to sing their heart out and is open to the beautiful tunes of Leonard Cohen - windows open, hair flying. Hope I'm not being too specific.

12th Night update: Melissa, Chong, Susan, and I are confirmed. Melissa will buy the tickets Tuesday - if you want in contact her by mid-day Monday. Tickets are $44-$63 (typical for such a top-notch production). I expect Melissa will probably get us $44 tickets.

I can carpool. Plan to leave Thursday morning. will have my kayak, can only fit one on top of my car unfortunately. Can give a rise to someone without a boat! I live on the north side of Chicago.

    July 13, 2012

  • Tim K

I would like to carpool. Please contact me if you are also looking to carpool. I'm even flexible about arrival - I'd like to drive up Thursday but will consider Friday if I can carpool.

  • Jeudi

I'm interested, Tim. I've only seen the school at Tsliesen. Would love to see the house.

    July 11, 2012

  • Chong

From nature shock to culture shock, Shakespeare and Frank Lloyd Wright will be very interesting to add to this weekend. Count me in.

    July 9, 2012

  • Tim K

I may organize a trip to American Players Theater to see Twelfth Night 3pm Saturday. I've discussed it with Melissa only so far and she is very interested. Since APT is about 60 miles southeast of Wildcat Mountain on the way there we could also hike at another park and/or a visit to Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin in Spring Green.

Melissa recommends getting your own ticket or paying through her as usual, but first please respond if you are interested so I can get an idea of the headcount.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
