Winter Adventures Weekend - Cabin Camping in Wausau, Wisconsin

Come Join the NW Burbs Camping and Adventures Group for the Winter Adventures Weekend - Cabin Camping in Wausa, WI- Thursday, February 7 through Sunday, Feburary 10, 2012

This year we are going up the weekend after the Badger State Games and the weekend after the Super Bowl.  This means we will have unrestricted access to all the area has to offer AND there will be no reason to leave early on Sunday - finally!!

** This will be a three-night trip for $85 with an option for a two-night trip for $70 for those who cannot arrive until Friday.  Please indicate if you need the two-night option in your RSVP and I will refund the difference.**

NOTE: An automatic waitlist is not available as this is a pre-pay event. Please "Post a Comment" blow that you are interested in being on the waitlist and the Date AND Time in order to secure the next available spot.

We’re heading out to Wausau, Wisconsin for a long weekend stay at YMCA Camp Sturtevant. This is a winter sports hub with nearby access to downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing, winter hiking, and snowtubing on an awesome tubing hill with 6 runs. We’ll have the Riverside Lodge building at the camp all to ourselves, complete with central fireplace, two wings with 15 bunk beds each, hot showers, and a limited kitchen. This is the event you have been asking for!!

YMCA Camp Sturtevant is an ideal setting for groups with close access to downhill skiing & snowboarding at Granite Peaks, snow shoeing at Rib Mountain, or cross country skiing at Nine Mile Park. Check out this link for more detailed information on recreation available in the area:

http://www.ci.wausau....

Cost includes your stay at the Lodge and all breakfasts and dinners from dinner on Thursday night through breakfast on Sunday. All lunches will be on our own as we come and go on various schedules.  All beverages are BYOB - there is space for coolers but not space in the refrigerator.

In addition, lift tickets, cross country trail fees, transportation, etc. are not included. Wausau is about a 4 to 5 hour drive from Chicago, depending on your starting point and the weather conditions for driving. As always, we encourage coordinating car-pools for the trip, so if you can offer or need a ride, include that info in your RSVP or post it on the meetup comments.

THIS TRIP WILL BE LIMITED TO THE FIRST 30 PEOPLE TO PAY ALTHOUGH I MAY OPEN IT UP TO MORE ATTENDEES IF THERE IS A LARGE WAITLIST. You must pay via Paypal to RSVP Yes. The cost will be $85 for a 3-night stay. There is also an option for a 2-night stay for those who cannot arrive until Friday for a cost of $70. When you RSVP Yes, you will have to pay the full amount, but if you add in your RSVP comments that you are staying 2 nights you will be refunded the difference within 48 hours.

REFUNDS are only available if you cancel 2 weeks in advance. After that, there will be NO refunds unless the trip is canceled!

Mark your calendars - this is going to be a trip you will not want to miss!

A lot of people have asked for the slow cooker lasagna recipe. Here is the link to the recipe I used - I only substituted Jennie-O Lean Italian Seasoned Ground Turkey for the Ground Beef:

Hello ! Looks like it's going to be a great weekend.
Just want to let you know I'm NOT stuck in a snowbank somewhere - I'm safe at home.
I had so looked forward to meeting folks again - but messed-up - had double-committed to 2 other events for this weekend. :-(
    Looks fantastic out there! Enjoy!

Oops, and where is public parking for Rib Mtn or Nine Mile?

    February 7, 2013

    • Mike

Nine mile is what you want for XC skiing. They have their own lot with plenty of parking.

      February 7, 2013

  • Tim K

Is XC skiing available at Rib Mtn or Nine Mile? I expect to arrive Friday around noon and intend to go directly to a skiing area. I think I went to Rib Mtn or Nine Mile last year. Safe driving, and see all y'all soon!

Fate Alert: if you are born the year of Snake, i.e., 2013-(12xn), please make sure to bring a red underwear (or shop with Melissa at Walmart). You need to wear it before you go to bed on Saturday, 2/9/13. Nothing kinky here. Not those 'end of the universe' alert either.

    February 6, 2013

    • Trinda

What happens if you don't ?

      February 6, 2013

    • Calvin

I don't know. Whatever Confusious/mother says, I just follow! (no, he did not say that.) According to the superstition, your born-year is rougher than others, so, wear red underwear on New Year's Eve will settle down your fate for the better.

Wish I could go, this sounds really fun!

Update for Wednesday January 30, 2013
The entire 30k of Cross Country Ski Trails and snowshoe trails at 9 Mile are OPEN. Crews are packing the trails this morning and tracks will be set after the snow event. There is a 5" packed base and the trails are in very good to excellent condition. There is 8" of snow in the woods and we have received 2" of new snow in the last 24 hours with the snow continuing.

I would really enjoy this trip but I own no snow shoes or ski equipment. Are there rentals available ? Or does anyone want to sell a set of skis, etc ?

    January 2, 2013

    • Steve

Thanks. I think if I am able to make the trip, I will rent.

Also, If all goes well I will again be leading the hike out at the Dells of the Eau Claire Sunday morning for the 3rd year. The 1st year, snow shoes were needed. Last year yaktraks were sufficient.

Hi Kathy. I'm new to this group as well and want to carpool-I live directly east of you in Oakbrook and would prefer not to drive. Are you ok with driving (split the gas of course!) if I drive to your place and then you drive from there? Maybe Carmen can join us (if you're reading this let us know!) I hope you have a good day-Dana

I don't have any equipment, do you have an idea on the total pkg price for ski rental, lift tickets, etc would be. It looks like a two day season ticket runs about $106 but I don't know what that includes.
