Blackwell Forest Preserve (McKee Marsh)

This hike will cover about 4 miles with an option to add an additional mileage.

~ hiking time: 2-3 hours
~ hiking difficulty: Easy.

Note: This is an adult only event 18+. This will be the first hike at this location for our Meetup.  If you are familiar with this location please help us lead the way.

We will hike on the North side of the Preserve at a Moderate pace.  After completing the North side, we will be back at the cars and we can additional mileage by hiking on the South end.

We will meet at 9:45 AM and hit the trails at 10:00 AM sharp.

Bring something to drink and snack to munch on while walking.  Dress appropriately for the weather does vary in Feb.  Yaktrax may be needed depending on how slippery the trail is.

We'll send out an email the day before the hike with any last minute information. Hope to see you there!

*If the weather is not in the mid/upper 20s I will be canceling the hike.  Please check your email 2hrs prior to start time.

I usually don't hang out after the hike, but that Two Brothers Brewery in Warrenville is a great find! Thanks, Birt, for the wonderful idea!

If the group is going to meet for some social time after the hike, the Two Brother's Brewery is less than two miles from Blackwell. It's a great place for lunch, with reasonable prices, and of course, a goodly selection of local beer.

If the group is going to hike the north section of Blackwell, I suggest meeting in the elementary school parking lot on Gary's Mill Road, just east of Route 59. If you are driving on Rte 59, the intersection with Gary's Mill Rd. is about 1/4 mile south of Roosevelt (Rte 38), and the school is about 1/4 mile east of Rte 59.

Blackwell is almost in my back-yard. I'll join the group and hike at my own pace. I don't expect to keep up with the group, but no one will have to stay behind, because I can easily find my way back to the trailhead.
