Like the last four years, the Northwest Freethought Coalition (NWFC) will celebrate Independence Day and the recent arrival of summer with a potluck picnic. All NWFC group members, friends and unaffiliated Freethinkers* are invited to this event on Friday, July 3, 2009. There will be games, grills and good conversation!
The picnic will be held at Ravenna Park (2000 NE 58th Street) in Seattle, a convenient and large location that last year drew more than 200 Freethinkers over the course of the day. We are planning to begin around 1 pm, with eating starting about 2 pm. Our park reservation runs into the evening.
The Humanists of Washington is leading the event planning -- please contact HOW Treasurer Jim Rybock ([masked]) if you would like to volunteer. Other NWFC member groups include the Seattle Atheists, Tacoma Atheists, Humanists of North Puget Sound, University Unitarian Humanists, Ethical Culture Society of Puget Sound, Secular Jewish Circle of Puget Sound, Freethinkers’ United Network and various atheist, Humanist and Brights Meetup groups.
*The universe of Freethinkers includes: agnostics, anti-supernaturalists, atheists, Brights, godless heathens, Humanists, Infidels, Naturalists, rationalists, simply non-religious, skeptics, unbelievers, and anyone else who, according to the American Heritage Dictionary definition of Freethinker, “rejects authority and dogma, forming opinions about religion on the basis of reason and rational inquiry, independent of tradition, authority, or established belief.”
