Just put a bunch of pics up. Everyone looked very lovely :-) Great to see such a good crowd. I think the networking was more successful than the Blackhawks last night.

I had to come home to #Eastbay / #SanFran to get work done, and get two startups launched. I hope we get to tell their tales soon.

Seriously, guys. Have fun. Take lots of pics.

I find it always helpful to work for the government regulatory agency controlling your business first then start your business. It's good to know who you are working for.

Salt Lake City Utah is a great example of a city that understands what it takes for a start-up to succeed. It doesn't matter if you're a software developer or a hot dog stand operator, they will assist you in starting and growing your business there.

It is great to have the cities support and even leadership but the entrepreneurial community needs entrepreneurs to be successful. Our goal for the Tech Foundry is to bring together Entrepreneurs and those that want to build their Entrepreneurial muscles and connect them with other talented people and with best practices for developing and building companies.

As Brad Feld, TechStars founder and Author of Startup Communities puts it:
"leaders have to be entrepreneurs. Everyone else – who I call the “feeders” (government, university, non-profits, big companies, VCs, angel investors) – have an important role, but the leaders must be entrepreneurs. Now – members of feeder organizations can play a leadership role, but in the absence of a critical mass of entrepreneurs, the startup community won’t ever develop into anything meaningful."

From "Chasing Smokestacks to Embracing Entrepreneurship" by the Kauffman Foundation.

"Entrepreneurship is rarely a solo enterprise. Smart people learn from each other, and an infrastructure for entrepreneurship should encourage connection."

"At the city level, an abundance of small entrepreneurial firms predicts success. High skill-levels are a potent predictor of population and income growth."

"There are two related tasks involved in creating entrepreneurial cities:
First, cities must attract smart, entrepreneurial people.
Second, cities must possess an infrastructure that supports creative, risk-taking behavior. The two tasks feed into each other. "Smart, entrepreneurial people will be attracted by good entrepreneurial infrastructure."

"City governments need to put their faith in the ability of smart people to build their own economic futures, rather than in the seemingly safer, but ultimately less robust, strategy of attracting mature industries."
