Deborah Espinosa on NGO Photography: A Tool for Global Advocacy

How does a photographer create compelling stories through the lens? Deborah Espinosa, photographer for Landesa: Rural Development Institute, a non-profit that works to expand land rights to the rural poor, will share images and describe critical steps in producing effective story-telling photography.

For her work, Deborah has spent time in rural developing communities around the world photographing the people her organization helps.

She says her images “help personalize what is otherwise an often vague impression of the rural poor” and are "a tool for global advocacy."

Deborah will discuss how to build trust with the photography subject as well as how to manage light when your schedule doesn't match the ideal conditions.

“Through documentary portraits, I capture some of the grace and soul in one little corner of the world for others to realize and experience…”

Join us for this wonderful start to the[masked] NW Photo LENS season.

Please note that September's meeting will be on the 2nd Monday of the month instead of our normal 1st Monday. This is because of the Labor Day holiday in September.

I really enjoyed/appreciated it too! You are doing great work out there, Debbie, and I was inspired. I've been wondering if there is some way I could get involved in something like this.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
